ARC meeting
The next meeting of the Agricultural Resources Committee of San Juan County will be held on Monday, Oct. 27, from 1:15 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Lopez Public Library. Guest speaker Rick Reed of the NW Agriculture Business Center will present the new Puget Sound Food Network concept and ask for input on how the network might serve San Juan County farmers and food purveyors. Reed’s presentation will begin at 2:30 p.m. Refreshments prepared by ICL member Vortex Cafe will be served.
Teen Movie Night
The next Teen Movie Night at Lopez Library will be on Saturday, Oct. 25, 5:30 p.m. The film being shown is “Ironman,” rated PG-13. Admission is free.
Friends of Woodmen Hall meeting
Friends of Woodmen Hall annual meeting will be held on Mon., Oct. 27 at 5:30 at Woodmen Hall. Election of officers for 2009 will be held. The community is invited and encouraged to attend. If you have any questions, call Connie Kyser at 468-3275.
Trail of Terror
Once again a group of Lopezians are putting on the Trail of Terror, a haunted path full of spooks and freaks this Halloween season on the 700 block of Vista Rd, Lopez Island. Opening Halloween night Friday, Oct. 31 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 1 from 6 to 9 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 2 from 6 to 8 p.m. Last year a volunteer staff of 20 scared 300 “victims” and raised over $500 for the Lopez Community Land Trust, Common Ground project. Admission is $5 per person. They are offering $1 off admission for the donation of a non-perishable food item for the local food bank. All profits will go to the Lopez High School Year Book as a fundraiser. This is a family event but not for the weak of heart.
San Juan
Land Bank meeting
The San Juan County Land Bank commission will hold a special meeting for their Annual Retreat on Friday, Oct. 24, 2008. The Rice Home, 609 Smugglers Cove Road, San Juan Island. The meeting starts at 7:00 am. The public is welcome at all meetings of the Land Bank Commission.
Come out and play!
Badminton for teens and adults meets in Turnbull Gym on Monday and Friday evenings from 7-9 p.m. The program is open to adults and teens 15 and older. Fee is $2 a night or $46 for the season that runs through January 2008. Men’s basketball is on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 8-10 p.m. Drop-in fee is $2 or $46 for the season pass. This program is open for ages 15 and older. Up to date schedules can be found on www.islandrec.org. There are nights when these programs are not open due to school events that have priority use of the facility. November is the start for Community Open Gym; Roller Hockey for ages 5-adults. Halloween party volunteers needed!
Island Rec is in need of volunteers for the Teen Halloween Party on October 31. Help is needed during the day with decorating and during the party help is needed to serve refreshments and supervise games and activities. Contact Abby at Island Rec to volunteer or for more information 378-4953.
