Annual Meeting: Friends of Lopez Island Library annual meeting and open house, 5 – 7p.m., Lopez Island Library. Lopez Island Librarian, Lou Pray introduces new library technologies: eAudiobooks and eJournals you can download free to your computer, iPod, or MP3 player. Learn about Web videoconferencing – you can attend virtual meetings and save on your ferry fare and travel time. Drawing for prizes, library volunteer recognition, introduction of new board members,and refreshments.

Lopez Children’s Center’s Flea Market: 10 a.m.– 2 p.m., Woodman Hall. 19 vendors, yard sale items, candles, soap, bedding, clothes, bake sale and more.

Earth Day island-wide clean up: 9:30 a.m. – 2 p.m. Meet at the Village Park right next to the Red Apple Lopez Village Market for registration. Bring a sack lunch, water, working gloves, weather and work appropriate clothing. For more information call Kirsten 468-3754.

Food Matters, a documentary: 2 – 4 p.m., Lopez Library Community meeting Room. “Let Thy Food Be Thy Medicine, And Thy Medicine Be Thy Food.” ~ Hippocrates. That is the message from the founding father of modern medicine echoed in this brave new documentary film brought to you by Producer-Directors James Colquhoun and Laurentine ten Bosch. ‘‘Food Matters’’ is a hard hitting, fast paced look at our current state of health. Despite the billions of dollars of funding and research into new so-called cures we continue to suffer from a raft of chronic ills and every day maladies. ‘‘Food Matters’’ seeks to uncover the business of disease and at the same time explore the safe, cheap and effective use of nutrition and supplementation for preventing and often reversing the underlying causative aspects of the illness. Dylan Thomas’s ‘‘Under Milk Wood’’: 7:30 p.m., Lopez Center. The narrative thread, in Thomas’s lyrical language, is carried by 61 voices and characters played by 19 adults and 9 children. Produced and directed by Carol Steckler, the performances are a fundraiser for KLOI and Lopez Center. Author Lecture and slideshow: 4 – 5:30 p.m., Lopez Library. Janet Thomas, San Juan Island Author of Day Breaks over Dharamsala and ‘‘Battle in Seattle’’ will discuss her newest book and show images from India to complete the story.

Evening Meals at School: 5:30 – 7 p.m., Lopez School. Be a part of this festive community gathering that supports local, seasonal, and sustainably grown food from our island farms. A kid-friendly option of plain grains and raw vegetables and a wheat-free version of the dessert are available at every meal. This is a donations-only event.
