Lopez AA meetings at the Children’s Center: Monday, Big Book, 7:30 p.m.; Friday, 12×12, 7:30 p.m.; Saturday, noon. Al-Anon family group meets every Friday morning at 9:00 a.m. in the Parish Hall of Grace Episcopal Church. Women’s meeting Wednesday, 4-5 p.m. (call 468-4648 or 468-0541 for location).

Waldron community meeting
The Waldron community meeting is every 2nd Saturday of the month in the schoolhouse. The group meets at 2:30 p.m. in the winter, and 4 p.m. in spring and summer.
SJC Parks regular meeting

Tai Chi on Lopez
Lopez Senior Center presents beginning and advanced Tai Chi at Woodmen Hall every Wednesday. During the month of May only, there will be a combined beginners and advanced class starting at 9 a.m. Starting in June and throughout the rest of summer, beginners meet at 9 a.m. and advanced is at 10 a.m. The group will continue to meet in Woodmen Hall until warmer weather when they will practice outside, possibly on the lawn of Lopez Center. Auditions for Whale of a Show
Come share your talent at the upcoming Whale of a Show! Auditions are on Thursday, May 8, 3:30 p.m. or Saturday, May 10, 11:00 a.m. at Orcas Center. Whale of a Show is co-produced again this summer by Orcas Center and Orcas Island Recreation Program. The show is part of the annual Memorial Day Kids’ Fest at Orcas Center. High school, middle school, and elementary school students are invited to participate. Whale of a Show will be performed May 22.
LCLT Board Meeting
The Lopez Community Land Trust Board of Directors will meet at the Lopez Library on Saturday May 10 from 9:00 a.m. to noon. All are welcome!
Decorate a flower pot for Mother’s Day
Sunset Builders Supply is offering a “Spring Kid Event.” Come decorate a flower pot and plant it for Mother’s Day. Saturday, May 10, 10 a.m. to noon, in Sunset’s Garden Center. All kids under 12 can participate for free.
Writer’s Roundtable
The Writer’s Roundtable will meet on Saturday, May 10, 1-3 p.m. at the Orcas Library. The topic will be “Memoir Writing: Transforming Your Memories into Meaningful Story.” They will examine and discuss excerpts from contemporary memoirs to better understand the interplay of memory, imagination and craft. Writing prompts and suggestions will be offered. You are encouraged to bring in some of your own work to share. All are welcome.
Danny Schmidt in concert
Danny Schmidt will perform on Sunday, May 11, 7:30 p.m. in the Lopez Island Grange Hall. Admission is $10. An authentic, timeless troubadour in the tradition of Townes Van Zandt, Bob Dylan, Leonard Cohen, and Dave Carter, Danny has a wide stylistic range and a great sense of poeticism. Memoir Group
The Memoir Group will meet on Tuesday, May 13, 1-3 p.m. at the Orcas Library. Join an informal group of writers who are working on memoirs. They will share work in progress, as they do each second Tuesday of the month. This is an open group and they welcome new writers.
SJI Conservation Dist. board meeting

Doe Bay Resort BBQ benefit for The Funhouse
The public is invited to a spring BBQ bash on Monday, May 19 from 5-8 p.m. at Doe Bay Resort on Orcas. Generously hosted by the Resort in support of The Funhouse, the event includes a scrumptious BBQ dinner prepared by Doe Bay Café head chef, Janay Destello. Live music will be performed by the three-piece AM String Band (www.amstringband.com) of Helena, Montana, who are a featured band at this year’s Northwest Folklife Festival in Seattle. Guests have a choice of an organic garden burger OR shrimp and veggie kabob; assorted sides, rosemary-infused lemonade and ice cream. (Kid meals include tofu dogs as the main entrée). Ticket prices are $25 for individuals 13 years and older and $12.50 for youth 4-12 years of age. Kids three years and younger are free! Outlaw Social concert
Back by popular demand, Outlaw Social will make its third appearance at Lopez Center. For those who haven’t had the privilege of attending before, Outlaw Social is a five piece-band from Victoria B.C., born out of friendship and tempered by a mutual passion for traditional string music.
