Community Conversations on America in Transformation

UW professor, David Domke to hold community conversation on Lopez

Submitted by Lopez Island Family Resource Center

The United States is in a time of tectonic social change, comparable in transformation and turmoil to some of the most defining eras in the nation’s history. At the heart of this shift are two important aspects of race relations: demographic shifts and a renewed era of the civil rights movement. The 2016 presidential election will be vital to shaping where America goes.

Join us on Friday, March 11 at 7 p.m. at Grace Church Hall for an evening with David Domke, University of Washington Professor and Chair of the Department of Communications, for “America in Transformation: Race, National Identity and the Presidency.”  This Community Conversation will be a lecture with questions and answers.  It is free and open to the public.  Child care will be provided.  Donations to the University of Washington’s Department of Communication are welcomed.

This event is a part of Community Conversations, a collective project of several community partners including Lopez Island Family Resource Center, Lopez Community Land Trust, Leadership San Juan Islands & Transitions Lopez. Our goal is to practice coming together around issues on which we might not agree, to learn more about them and engage in civil discourse. Please bring questions and an open mind.
