Jonathan Byrd performance

Jonathan Byrd will perform on Friday, March 28 at 7:30 p.m. in the Lopez Island Grange Hall. $10 admission. North Carolinian and Kerrville New Folk winner Jonathan Byrd’s substantive songs are rich with imagery and textures and influences from Appalachian, country, early American balladry, modern atmospheric Mideastern, urban and old timey folk music. Fiction Writers’ Group

Town Hall meeting on underage drinking

The Student Leadership Class of Lopez School District invites all students, parents and community members to an interactive presentation surrounding the myths of underage drinking. They will provide an opportunity for the community to come together to learn more about the myths surrounding underage drinking in our community.

The public is invited to participate in the presentation on April 1 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Lopez Community Center. Pizza will be served.

First aid/CPR class on Lopez

Lopez Island Fire & EMS will be teaching a First aid /CPR class at Station 41 on Wed. April 2, and Thurs. April 3, from 6:30 – 9:00 p.m. and Saturday, April 5 from 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. Participants must attend all three classes. Limited to 15 participants. $15 fee.

Bob Myhr community meeting

Join County Council Member Bob Myhr at the Lopez Library on Thursday, April 3, 4:00-5:30 p.m. for a discussion of local and county issues, including County Charter implemenation status, Lopez UGA, Odlin Park South, Fisherman Bay Road Plan, ferries, and other current issues. Everyone encouraged to attend and provide comments and input about county policy.

People for Puget Sound lectures

The Whale Museum and The San Juan Nature Institute are pleased to welcome Kathy Fletcher for a discussion about the state of our inland waters and the efforts to restore their health by the year 2020. Kathy Fletcher is the founder and executive director of People for Puget Sound, a citizens’ organization formed in 1991 to protect and restore Puget Sound and the Northwest Straits. This special event is on Friday, April 4. An informal reception begins at 6:30 p.m. to meet Kathy as well as other staff members from People for Puget Sound, the San Juan Nature Institute, and The Whale Museum. The lecture, which begins at 7:00 p.m., is free and open to the public, although donations are greatly appreciated. For more information, call (360) 378-4710 ext. 23. On April 5, Doug Myers will present “Climate Change in the San Juans.” Myers is the Science Director for People For Puget Sound. The lecture will in Emmanuel Church, Eastsound, 6:30 p.m. public reception, 7 p.m., presentation. Funhouse benefit sushi dinner

Lori and Bob Breslauer are generously hosting a sushi tasting dinner to benefit The Funhouse at their beautiful West Sound Café, on Sunday, April 6. They are bringing out Taichi Kitamura, owner and celebrated chef of Seattle’s famous Chiso restaurant, to present his choices of a fixed, special sushi menu. As he says, he will “serve you food that I want to eat myself in the way I would like to be served.” There will be two seatings only (first one starts at 5:00), $65 per person.
