Ukulele group looking for more players

A ukulele “jam” group of four is looking for more participants. Beginners welcome. Slack-key guitar players are welcome, too. The group currently meets every other week. Call Margo at 468-3453 for more information.

Preschool super Saturdays

Island Rec’s preschool arts and crafts is back! Join in this drop-in program for arts and crafts, games, and songs. Your preschooler will have an opportunity to play, create and socialize with kids their age. Just drop by the Family Resource Center in Friday Harbor between 1 and 3 p.m. on Saturdays through April 5. Come join the fun! $3 per child, $2 for each additional child.

New Priorities Vigil

There will be a New Priorities Vigil to mark the fifth year of the Iraq War, and to express the wish that priorities will turn to more hopeful activities in the future. Come and stand together for a few moments to lift each other up and give each other hope on Wednesday, March 19, 5:00-6:00 p.m. in Lopez Village, across from the Love Dog Cafe. OPALCO meeting on Lopez

OPALCO’s monthly board meeting is on March 20, 10:15 a.m. at Lopez Center. This is the regularly scheduled monthly board meeting of OPALCO board of directors.

Giant Garage Sale

A Giant Garage Sale is on March 22, 10-1 p.m. in the multi-purpose room in Lopez Elementary School. All proceeds go to the junior Class for spring prom. Please drop off any donations at the elementary school on Friday, March 21 from 3:00-5:00. Contact Tina Dengler at 468-2809 with any questions.

Flashlight Easter egg hunt

A unique twist on the regular egg Hunt! Teens, 6th grade and up, are invited to bring a flashlight and a basket for a night of hunting for Easter eggs in the dark and play games. This event will take place on Saturday, March 22, at the Friday Harobr High School track field, from 8:30-10 p.m. Come join the fun — there’s a treat in every egg and it’s free! Deer Harbor Easter Egg Hunt

The Deer Harbor Women’s Auxiliary and the Deer Harbor Inn will hold an Easter Egg Hunt on Easter Sunday, March 23 from 1-2 p.m. at the Deer Harbor Inn. The event is for children 12 and under. For more information call 376-2307.

The next Agricultural Resources Committee meeting will be on Tuesday, March 25 from 3:15-5:15 p.m. at the Orcas Hotel in the Parlor Room.

LCLT Annual Meeting

Everyone is invited to the 19th Annual Lopez Community Land Trust Meeting on Thursday, March 27 at 7 p.m. at the Lopez Community Center. Acting Studio

The recent production of “Fiddler on the Roof” showed that there are many talents available here in the community of Lopez. Together, let’s continue to exchange, explore, and expand our knowledge and creativity through expressive acting, while progressively opening to the realization of the body as the actors’ most essential tool. Lopez School Music Advocacy Foundation presents The Clarence Acox Quintet with Michael Brockman, Phil Sparks, Jay Thomas, Randy Halberstadt or Reuel Lubag of the Seattle Repertory Jazz Orchestra on Friday, March 28 in the Galley Restaurant. Kwiáht annual meeting

Kwiáht (Center for the Historical Ecology of the Salish Sea) holds its second Annual Meeting at Elements Hotel, 410 Spring Street in Friday Harbor, Saturday, March 29 from 1 to 4 pm. A public presentation by Kwiáht Director Russel Barsh on “Terrestrial Biodiversity in the San Juan Islands” will precede the business meeting, which will elect officers and consider research priorities for the coming year. Kwiaht is a nonprofit conservation biology laboratory devoted to promoting sound stewardship of marine and terrestrial ecosystems of the San Juan Archipelago. Coffelt Farm Field Trip

Orcas Rec is hosting a field trip to Coffelt Farm on Orcas Saturday, April 5, 10 a.m. They’ll walk the farm to get a feel for the land and what it produces. They will focus this visit on the sheep barn where the newborn lambs and the ewes spend a couple of days after birth. Lambing is a busy time of year at Coffelt’s, and the children will see how they care for newborn lambs, dock tails, weigh, and put in ear tags. Open to 15 children who register.
