On Monday, Oct. 16, Washington Department of Ecology (DOE) announced official approval for San Juan County’s updated Shoreline Master Program (SMP).
The updated shoreline regulations go into effect on Monday, Oct. 30, 2017. After this, a pre-application meeting is required prior to submittal of Shoreline Substantial Development Permits, Shoreline Conditional Use Permits and Shoreline variances. Information about the pre-application process may be found at http://sanjuanco.com/1301/Pre-Application-Assistance.
DOE’s approval will be published on Oct. 25, in the Journal of the San Juans and the Islands’ Sounder. That publication begins a 60-day appeal period. Appeals must be submitted to the Growth Management Hearings Board, PO Box 40953, Olympia, WA, 98504.
Until incorporated into the County code, the updated SMP consists of two ordinances (and associated exhibits), Ordinance 1-2016 and Ordinance 11-2017. Ordinance 11-2017 amended some of the provisions in Ordinance 1-2016.
