The San Juan County Sheriff’s Office responded to the following calls.
June 7
• A deputy on Orcas stopped the driver of a vehicle and issued them a speeding citation for driving 64 mph in a 40 mph zone.
• A deputy issued a driver on Orcas a citation for speeding – 44 mph in a 25 mph zone and one for not having proof of insurance.
• A Friday Harbor resident reported missing her 10’ Walker Bay dinghy from the Port of Friday Harbor. The dinghy was tied up at the dinghy dock and was last seen around April 23. The vessel is white with grey seats, with a dark grey pontoon kit and a 10-hp motor.
• A Lopez deputy was contacted for a welfare check on a person with a substance use disorder.
• A deputy on Orcas was dispatched to a report of hearing gunshots the night before and filed a report.
• A Lopez deputy responded to a single-vehicle accident that occurred on private property. The driver provided repayment for a damaged fence post to the property owner.
• An off-duty San Juan deputy observed an individual driving on a suspended driver’s license and violating a protection order. The individual was arrested for the order violation and the report was forwarded to the prosecutor’s office for a charging decision for DWLS-2nd degree.
June 8
• An Orcas deputy responded to a property line dispute on Racoon Point Rd. After speaking with the reporting party, it was determined the matter was civil in nature.
• A deputy was dispatched to a trespassing on San Juan. A business was requesting a trespass for a person who ultimately was served with a trespass warning letter.
• Deputies responded to an Eastsound address on a report of a domestic dispute. It was discovered that a mother and daughter had an altercation. Both parties were talked to and a report documenting the incident was written.
• The San Juan Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of an agency assist. Guidance was provided to an already reported incident.
• A San Juan deputy took a report of a loose dog. Staff at a local market located an errant dog that was returned to its owner. The owner was issued a citation for a dog-at-large – 2nd offense and counseled about ways to keep the dog secured.
• A San Juan deputy stopped the driver of a vehicle as the registration had expired and the registered owner did not have a valid driver’s license. The driver was issued citations for not having a valid license with ID and no insurance. Additional warnings were given.
June 9
• A deputy stopped the driver of a vehicle on Orcas Road. The driver was subsequently issued a citation for speeding 31 mph over the posted speed limit.
• A Lopez deputy and Lopez EMS responded when a truck experiencing brake problems failed to negotiate a corner and crashed into a tree. An excavator came to retrieve the truck, but the excavator lost balance and flipped on its side while attempting to lift the truck. No one was injured.
• A San Juan deputy initiated a traffic stop on Rouleau Road. The driver was issued a citation for speeding – 64mph in a 35 mph zone – and for operating a motor vehicle without insurance.
June 10
• Deputies on Orcas responded to an assault at a local resort. The suspect was arrested and transported to jail.
• San Juan deputies responded to a citizen dispute that resulted in one individual arrested for out-of-county warrants and another arrested for DUI after arriving at the residence intoxicated as the deputies were on scene.
• A Lopez deputy responded to a report of a dog that attacked a neighboring dog. The injured dog was tended to by a vet technician, but the dog succumbed to its injuries. The owner of the attacking dog was issued a citation and the dog will be declared as dangerous, imposing numerous restrictions and fees.
June 11
• A deputy on Orcas responded to an unwanted person at a local resort. The person was trespassed from the location and provided a courtesy ride to the ferry landing.
• A deputy on San Juan was dispatched to a report of a theft from a local business. The suspect was located and items were returned.
• A San Juan deputy was dispatched to another report of theft from a local business. The investigation is ongoing.
• A deputy was dispatched to a possible assault on San Juan. The reporting party later stated that the incident was kids playing and that no assault took place.
June 12
• A Lopez resident called to suggest a nearby dog killed their chicken. The circumstances did not support the accusation.
• Deputies responded to a single-vehicle accident with injury in Eastsound. After an investigation was completed the driver was arrested for DUI. All parties were assessed and cleared by Orcas EMS.
• On San Juan, deputies responded to a pair of thefts from local businesses. A deputy on San Juan responded to a theft at a local business.
• Deputies on San Juan responded to another possible theft, this time from a private residence.
• A deputy on San Juan stopped the driver of a motorcycle for improper display of a license plate and cited the driver for not having insurance and no motorcycle endorsement. The driver also received warnings for improper display of a license plate, not having mirrors, not having a license on their person, and not having registration.
• A deputy on San Juan was dispatched to a report of a theft.
June 13
• Deputies responded to a report of a domestic disturbance in Friday Harbor. One person was found to be in violation of court-ordered alcohol conditions; a report was sent to the courts.
• A San Juan deputy stopped the driver of a vehicle for traveling 43 mph on Spring Street. The driver was issued a citation for speeding and received additional warnings.
• A deputy on Orcas responded to a medical call to assist EMS with a possible overdose. The patient regained consciousness with the life-saving techniques and quick response time of Orcas EMS. The patient was flown off the island for more evaluation.
