The San Juan County Sheriff’s Office responded to the following calls.

May 18

• A Lopez deputy took a report regarding suspicious email and electronic communications with unknown third parties.

• A San Juan deputy issued a driver a citation for traveling 44 mph in a posted 25 mph speed zone.

• San Juan deputies responded to a call about the issuance of a protection order. The incident was documented and the report sent to the prosecutor’s office for a charging decision.

May 19

• A Lopez resident reported the theft of a firearm.

• A San Juan deputy stopped the driver of a car because neither driver nor passenger was wearing seatbelts. Both occupants received citations for not buckling up, and the driver also received multiple warnings.

• A deputy on Orcas stopped the driver of a vehicle for speeding. The driver received a warning for speeding and for not have working brake lights and a citation for not having proof of insurance.

• A San Juan deputy responded to a report of a theft.

• While driving on West Valley Road on San Juan, the driver of a vehicle left the roadway and struck a parked vehicle, causing extensive damage to both vehicles. Deputies issued the driver a citation for driving with wheels off the roadway.

• A deputy on Orcas responded to a fraud call.

• A Lopez deputy responded to a found property complaint after a boater found a dinghy adrift and towed it back to Lopez.

• A deputy on Orcas investigated a report of a driver possibly under the influence. When contacted, the driver showed no sign of impairment, though did receive a warning for talking on a cell phone while driving.

• San Juan deputies responded to an injury collision. Emergency Medical Service transported the driver to Peace Island Medical Center for treatment.

• A deputy on Orcas responded to a complaint of harassment and found no crime was committed.

May 20

• Deputies on Orcas contacted a person who had an outstanding traffic-related warrant. The person was taken into custody without incident, transported to Friday Harbor, and booked into the county jail on the outstanding warrant.

• A Lopez deputy responded to a report that a stop sign was knocked down at the intersection of Port Stanley Road and Lopez Sound Road creating a traffic hazard.

• A San Juan deputy attempted to stop the driver of a vehicle for traveling 52 mph in a posted 35 mph speed zone. The driver, who continued to drive for over five miles before coming to a stop, received a citation for speeding as well as multiple warnings.

May 21

• Deputies on Orcas responded to a traffic collision at the intersection of Main Street and Madrona Street. Both parties involved in the collision were uninjured and a non-injury traffic collision report was completed.

• San Juan deputies recovered license plates that were stolen from the Seattle area and placed them into evidence.

• A deputy stopped a driver on Orcas for speeding. The driver was cited for traveling 51 mph in a 40 mph zone.

• San Juan deputies witnessed an underage male purchase alcohol and tobacco at a local store. The items were seized and the case will be forwarded to the court.

• A Lopez deputy saw a driver speeding in the 2500 block of Fisherman Bay Road and issued them a speeding ticket.

May 22

• A deputy on San Juan stopped a driver known to have a suspended license. The driver was arrested for driving with a suspended license-third degree and a citation for not having insurance.

• A Lopez deputy stopped a motorist in the 1800 block of Fisherman Bay Rd for driving without wearing a seat belt. Once stopped, the deputy discovered the vehicle registration expired in 2014. Consequently, the driver received a ticket for failing to wear her seat belt and for driving with expired vehicle registration.

• An Orcas deputy stopped the driver of a vehicle for speeding 56 mph in a 35 mph zone. Further investigation revealed the driver was not licensed and had no identification. The driver was arrested and released with a citation for the license violation and speeding.

• A Lopez deputy stopped a motorist in the post office parking lot after he saw him driving on Fisherman Bay Road while not wearing his seat belt. The deputy learned the driver had no vehicle insurance and cited him for failing to wear a seat belt and for not having insurance.

• A deputy on Lopez stopped a motorist after he saw him fail to stop at the intersection of Lopez and Fisherman Bay Road, and issued the driver a ticket for failing to stop at a stop sign.

• Deputies received a call that a driver on Crescent Beach Drive heading toward Main Street may have been intoxicated. When deputies located the vehicle, they found the driver to be under the influence of an alcoholic beverage. The driver was then arrested for driving under the influence.

• A Lopez deputy stopped a motorist in the 2000 block of Fisherman Bay Road after he saw him fail to stop at the intersection of Weeks and Fisherman Bay Road. The driver did not have his driver’s license with him and the deputy issued the driver a ticket for running the stop sign.

• Deputies on Orcas were contacted about a juvenile who had entered a neighbor’s home without permission and used an electronic device while in the home. After an investigation, it was determined no crime was committed.

May 23

• A Lopez deputy stopped a speeding driver who was issued a citation for traveling 63 mph in a posted 35 mph zone and for operating a motor vehicle without insurance.

• Deputies responded to a domestic disturbance at the Rosario Resort. A married couple was contacted and, after an investigation, it was determined no crime was committed.

• A Lopez deputy observed a vehicle swerving, the driver crossing the center line on Center Road. The vehicle was stopped and the driver, who was found to be under the influence of alcohol, was arrested for a DUI.

• Deputies were asked to investigate the theft of an Amazon fire tablet from a vehicle on San Juan. After speaking with the tablet’s owner, it turned out the electronic device was lost, not stolen.

May 24

• In Friday Harbor, a deputy received a call from a person who had said she was pushed down by a friend the previous day on Orcas, a push that injured the caller’s ankle necessitating EMS assistance to get to the hospital. The caller, however, refused to provide information on the incident.

• A deputy on San Juan stopped the driver of a vehicle on Bailer Hill Road for speeding. The driver was issued a citation for traveling 59 mph in a 45 mph zone.
