The San Juan County Sheriff’s Office responded to the following calls:
Jan. 18
• At 10:59 p.m., deputies investigated a call about a disturbance at a Friday Harbor apartment. Deputies arrested a male subject that had threatened to kill a neighbor with a knife.
Jan. 19
• A deputy spoke with a Lopez Island resident regarding a hit-and-run complaint. It was determined that a motorist had damaged the Center Church’s fence. The person responsible for the damage was identified and agreed to pay for the repairs.
• Orcas deputies responded to an Olga address regarding a possible residential burglary. When a caretaker went to check on the residence at the request of the owner, she found unknown people in the residence. The owner had allowed access to a family member only. When the deputy responded, it was discovered that the unknown individuals were the company of the family member. The caretaker, acting on the owner’s behalf, asked for the unknown people to be removed. The individuals were removed from the property and the burglary was unfounded, as they were invited by the family member who had permission to be in the residence.
• Friday Harbor deputies retrieved a firearm from a person with a protection order against them. The rifle was recovered and placed into safekeeping.
• A deputy was dispatched to a report of an unwanted person in Friday Harbor. After the arrival of the deputy, the unwanted person left without incident.
• A Lopez deputy was dispatched to investigate circumstances surrounding the fall of an elderly Lopez resident, which resulted in fatal injuries.
Jan. 20
• Deputies were dispatched to a domestic disturbance in Friday Harbor. The parties were separated for the evening.
• Deputies located a wanted person inside Island Market in Eastsound. The subject was arrested, transported and booked into jail in Friday Harbor without further incident.
• At 10:26 p.m., deputies and EMS responded to a report of a traffic accident on San Juan Island. Deputies found a single vehicle had driven through a cattle gate. The driver was cited for negligent driving and not having a valid driver’s license or insurance.
Jan. 21
• An Orcas deputy recognized a driver known to not have a license. The driver was contacted and found to have no valid form of identification. The driver was arrested, processed and released with a promise to appear in court.
• A traffic stop in Eastsound led to a driver being issued an infraction for not having a license with and no proof of insurance.
• A Lopez Island deputy was called regarding an injured fawn in the village. The fawn was dead when then deputy arrived. Public works was notified to remove the carcass.
• A deputy was dispatched to a single vehicle accident in the Friday Harbor area. The deputy arrived and discovered a single vehicle had struck a building. The driver of the vehicle was issued a citation for having no driver’s license and not having insurance.
• A deputy responded to a trespassing complaint in Eastsound. It was discovered that a person had cut a lock on a gate and had taken items from a property.
Jan. 22
• A deputy made contact with an adult male and juvenile female in Eastsound. It was discovered that the female’s parents did not know she was with the male. The persons were identified and the female was picked up by a responsible party.
• A black wallet was turned in to dispatch. It was found across the street from 96 Second Street in Friday Harbor.
• A Lopez deputy responded to a reported dog-at-large. The dog was returned to the registered owner and the owner was cited.
• A Friday Harbor deputy was dispatched to an unconscious male. Aid was on scene attempting CPR without success. In examining the scene it appears the male had fallen down the stairs and struck his head. Cause of death is still unknown. The body was transported to Evans Funeral Home to await an autopsy.
• A Lopez Island deputy was sent to check on an elderly couple after friends on the mainland were unable to reach them. The couple was at home and everything was fine.
• A Lopez Island deputy was sent to investigate suspicious circumstances at a residence after the homeowner observed unusual events on a webcam monitoring the home. The responding deputy found the house and grounds secure.
Jan. 23
• A Lopez Island deputy checked a resident’s home after concerns were raised regarding intruders. Nothing suspicious was found.
• A Lopez Island deputy was called to investigate the apparent theft of a parcel delivered to a residence but never received by the recipient.
• A deputy took a report of check fraud in Eastsound. The victim claimed that a $600 check had been written and cashed without his authorization. There is a suspect and the case is under investigation.
Jan. 24
• A deputy was dispatched to an aggressive dog on a work site. The involved parties were contacted and an agreement was reached.
