San Juan County Sheriff’s Office responded to the following calls.

Dec. 30

• A Lopez deputy responded to a report of a tree down, partially blocking Fisherman Bay Road. An OPALCO crew assisted in clearing the roadway.

• A deputy on Lopez took a report of the theft of a parcel left by a roadside mailbox.

Dec. 31

• On San Juan, a report was made of possible financial exploitation. The case was determined to be civil in nature.

• A deputy on Orcas was dispatched to an auto/pedestrian accident. An accident report was filed and the driver was issued a citation for failing to yield to a pedestrian in the crosswalk.

• A subject on San Juan found some money and turned it into the sheriff’s office. The money was entered into evidence to be claimed.

• A deputy on San Juan responded to a report of a domestic violence incident. No crimes were committed and the issue was found to be civil in nature.

• San Juan deputies received a report of vandalism. The damage was minor and there is no suspect information.

• A Lopez deputy received a threats complaint call from a man on Decatur Island.

• Deputies on Orcas responded to a welfare check. The subject was contacted through a third party and stated she was alright.

• San Juan deputies responded to a suspicious call.

Jan. 1

• Deputies responded to a domestic incident in Friday Harbor. The suspect left the scene before deputies arrived and were not located.

• Charging documents will be forwarded to the prosecutor’s office.

• San Juan deputies responded to a report of a domestic incident. One person was arrested for fourth-degree domestic assault, malicious mischief, third-degree domestic assault, obstructing a law enforcement officer and possession of a dangerous weapon.

• A deputy on Orcas stopped the driver of a vehicle. The driver was issued a citation for speeding and arrested for driving under the influence of intoxicating liquor and/or drugs. All three occupants of the vehicle were arrested for minors in possession or consumption of alcohol.

• A deputy on Orcas was dispatched to a possible burglary. After the investigation was completed, it was deemed a civil issue and both parties agreed to work it out.

• A San Juan deputy stopped the driver of a vehicle for traveling 51 mph in a posted 35 mph speed zone. The vehicle was impounded for a narcotics investigation and, upon obtaining a search warrant, deputies located methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia inside the vehicle.

Jan. 2

• A San Juan deputy responded to a report of a single-vehicle collision. The driver left the scene and was later located. They were issued several traffic citations.

• A deputy on San Juan stopped the driver of a vehicle for speeding. The driver was issued a citation for traveling 68 mph in a 45 mph speed zone.

• A San Juan deputy stopped the driver of a vehicle for traveling 48 mph in a posted 25 mph speed zone. The driver was issued a citation for speeding.

• The sheriff’s office on San Juan received a request for assistance from Washington State Patrol regarding a missing person complaint made on Jan. 1, 2021. The missing person was last seen on an Anacortes-bound ferry from Lopez on Dec. 31, 2020. The complaint is currently under investigation.

Jan. 3

• A San Juan deputy responded to a report of a disorderly subject. The subject was trespassed from multiple locations.

• A deputy on San Juan responded to a report of vandalism involving some explosive devices. The investigation is ongoing.

• On Orcas, a deputy conducted a traffic stop. The driver was issued a citation for speeding, 38 mph in a 25 mph zone.

• A Lopez deputy received a call concerning a damaged walkway. Upon investigation, the walkway was damaged when a man being navigated by Google Maps mistakenly took it for a driveway. He drove his vehicle down the path until it became stuck in mud. A friendly neighbor assisted in pulling him out.

• A deputy on Orcas conducted a traffic stop. The driver was issued a citation for speeding, 52 mph in a 35 mph zone.

• A deputy on Orcas conducted a traffic stop. The driver was issued a citation for speeding, 55 mph in a 35 mph zone and for not having a valid driver’s license with valid identification.

Jan. 4

• A deputy responded to a report of trespassing in Friday Harbor. Evidence photos and written statement were gathered from the caller. Deputies were unable to locate the subject who is believed to be off island. A report was made and a probable-cause statement forwarded to the prosecutor’s office.

• A Lopez deputy responded to a threats call. Upon investigation, one man aggressively yelled at another inside of an area business. The yelling was rude and insulting, but not criminal. The two men sent each other follow-up emails to gain understanding on why the conflict transpired.

Jan. 5

• A deputy responded to a littering call at an Eastsound business. Locks were cut on a dumpster and the locking bar stolen. There are no suspects at this time. A report and photographs were taken.

• A deputy responded to a report of a minor vehicle collision with no injuries in Friday Harbor. Information was exchanged, a collision report was completed, and the report was forwarded to Washington State Patrol.

• A welfare check was conducted on a woman after information was shared from another agency that indicated she didn’t feel safe. Resources were provided, and she did not request further assistance.

• A deputy responded to a report of littering in Eastsound.

• An Orcas deputy was dispatched to a harassment complaint.
