More than 140 sailors from 23 Northwest high schools – some from as far away as Portland, Ore. – descended on Lopez Island’s Fisherman Bay for the Islands Cup Interscholastic Sailing Regatta on April 5 and 6. Teams from all three San Juan County high schools competed. The Islands Cup has been held in the San Juans for 12 years with locations alternating between San Juan Island and Orcas. This was the first time Lopez Island Yacht Club hosted the event. Port Townsend took top honors, followed by Sehome (near Bellingham) and Lincoln (Portland).
