The San Juan County Sheriff’s Office responded to the following calls.
May 27
• A Lopez employer reported that fraudulent unemployment claims were filed utilizing the personal identifying information of two employees.
• San Juan deputies were advised of two separate fraudulent unemployment claims and documented each incident.
• A Lopez deputy investigated a report of violations of the public health officer’s order requiring face masks and social distancing at a local business.
• A Lopez resident reported damage to their driveway when a vehicle got stuck and left ruts in the process of getting unstuck.
• A deputy was dispatched to a report of unemployment fraud in Eastsound and filed a report.
• Orcas deputies were dispatched to a possible domestic disturbance. When they arrived, they discovered the disturbance was a verbal argument and no crime had been committed.
• A San Juan deputy arrested a motorcycle rider for driving with a suspended license and registration-third degree. The motorcyclist was later released with citations for not having insurance or motorcycle endorsement and for defective headlamps.
• On Lopez, a deputy assisted with the removal of a deer that was found roaming inside the fenced area of the airport.
• A San Juan deputy stopped the driver of the vehicle because the registered owner did not have a driver’s license. The driver was arrested on a warrant and for obstructing a law enforcement officer.
May 28
• San Juan deputies were advised of two separate fraudulent unemployment claims and documented the incidents.
• Lopez deputies completed a total of nine reports documenting unemployment fraud.
• A vehicle on San Juan was stopped as the driver did not have a valid driver’s license. K9 Sucia alerted the deputy to the odor of narcotics inside the vehicle and the vehicle was impounded. A search warrant was executed and narcotics were located inside the vehicle.
• A San Juan deputy arrested a driver for driving with a suspended license and issued the driver a citation for license plates violation. The driver was released with information that the courts would be in touch.
• Deputies stopped the driver of a vehicle for speeding on San Juan. The driver was issued a citation for driving without insurance.
May 29
• A deputy stopped a vehicle for speeding in Eastsound. Further investigation revealed probable cause to believe the driver was under the influence of alcohol and or/drugs. The driver was arrested, processed and released with a citation.
• A San Juan deputy issued citations to a driver for failing to stop at a stop sign and for not having proof of insurance.
• An Orcas deputy responded to a vandalism call near Doe Bay.
• Lopez deputies completed six reports documenting unemployment fraud.
• A Lopez deputy responded to a citizen’s dispute regarding the wearing of a mask at the market. The caller was advised of the temporary rules and was offered other options to get his groceries.
• A San Juan deputy stopped the driver of a vehicle because the driver had a suspended driver’s license. The driver was arrested for driving with a suspended license-third degree and for an ignition interlock violation. The driver was also issued a citation for not having insurance.
• A San Juan deputy stopped the driver of a vehicle because the driver had a suspended driver’s license. K9 Sucia alerted the deputy to the odor of narcotics inside the vehicle and the vehicle was impounded pending a search warrant.
• A deputy on Orcas conducted an area check at the Westsound public dock. A boater was issued a verbal warning for mooring after dark and was asked to move his vessel.
• Deputies on Orcas issued two separate tickets for violating the San Juan County Code
May 30
• A San Juan deputy arrested a driver for driving under the influence. The driver was later released with citations for driving with an obstructed license plate and for failing to sign a registration document.
• A Lopez deputy assisted a state agency by taking a report of theft from a resident.
• A deputy was dispatched to a citizen assist near Eastsound.
• In Friday Harbor, a deputy was contacted about a report of malicious mischief. The deputy contacted the caller, saw the damage to a group of mailboxes and took photos.
• Deputies and Orcas Fire and Rescue responded to call about an injury accident at 2188 Crow Valley Rd. The caller said there was a single-vehicle rollover collision in front of their house.
• Deputies in Friday Harbor stopped the driver of a vehicle that was registered to a driver who had no valid driver’s license. The driver was issued a citation for driving without a valid driver’s license with identification.
May 31
• A deputy on Orcas was dispatched to a report of a possible driving-under-the-influence driver at the ferry terminal. The driver of the suspect vehicle was arrested for driving under the influence and booked into the San Juan County Jail.
• A deputy on Orcas was dispatched to a burglary call on Raccoon Point Road. A report and photographs were taken. There are no suspects at this time.
• On San Juan, a deputy was contacted about property found in a local park. The person had located an item in a local park which was later entered into found property.
• A deputy was dispatched to a possible domestic disturbance in the San Juan Island area. When the deputy arrived and made contact with the persons involved, it was determined the incident was not a domestic disturbance and that no crime had been committed.
• On Orcas, a deputy was informed of a complaint of possible vandalism by graffiti. An investigation commenced.
• Deputies received a call of reported threats in Friday Harbor.
• Deputies stopped the driver of a vehicle on San Juan for expired registration. The driver was arrested for driving without a valid driver’s license with identification, cited and released, and issued a citation for driving without insurance.
June 1
• A part-time Lopez resident reported a trespassing incident that was captured on his home security video system. A deputy checked the home and property and nothing appeared to be out of place.
• San Juan deputies received a call about a citizen dispute.
• Deputies responded to a possible domestic violence incident in Friday Harbor. One person was arrested for assault in the fourth degree, domestic violence.
• Deputies on Orcas stopped the driver of a vehicle after witnessing it move into the opposite lane in an attempt to go around vehicles stopped during a demonstration. The driver was issued a citation for speeding, 39 mph in a 20 mph zone, and negligent driving.
• A deputy on Orcas took an informational report regarding a boat fire and a sinking near Matia Island.
June 2
• San Juan deputies responded to a report of a domestic dispute. Since there was no physical interaction between either party and the altercation was verbal only, the parties separated for a cooling off period.
• A San Juan deputy was contacted by a resident who received a call from their employer who said they had received a notice from the state about an unemployment claim. The caller did not file the claim.
• Deputies responded to an Eastsound address regarding harassment between siblings. Further investigation revealed crimes of assault and harassment and one subject was taken into custody. The investigation continues.
• A San Juan deputy was dispatched to a report of an animal bite. A report was completed and no citation was issued.
• A deputy on Orcas issued a ticket for violating San Juan County Code
