On February 9, 2010, the Lopez Island School District will ask voters to approve a four-year Replacement Educational Maintenance and Operations Levy. Approximately 18% of the district’s regular operating budget comes from voter approved levies. When one levy expires, citizens are asked to vote to continue providing local school support through levy dollars, similar to renewing a magazine subscription. Local levy funds help to support numerous programs, materials and activities such as textbooks, classroom supplies, staff training, field trips, athletics, utilities, food service, special education, etc.
Ballots will be mailed on January 22. For more information about the levy, call Linda Martin, Superintendent, at 468-2202 ext. 2350.
