Come hear about what life was like for those who made San Juan Island their home up to 100 years ago. Our very own island pioneer families will share captivating stories about our unique island history, revealing what it means to be a part of this community. Saturday, January 31 Teen Book Club meets to watch “I, Robot” 5:30 p.m. San Juan Island Library, free. Come see the movie “I, Robot” by Isaac Asimov after reading the book. All teens can pick up a free copy of the book at the library. There will be free pizza and beverages on Saturday during the movie and book discussion. Sunday, February 1 Compassion, Love and Our Town 6:00 p.m. San Juan Island Library, free. The Evergreen State College Professor, William Ray Arney, and John Davis, Director of San Juan Community Theatre’s production of Our Town will discuss the themes touched upon in Thornton Wilder’s classic play. Known for its simplistic style, Our Town explores complicated issues such as the meaning of life, death and love. How has our community–and our town-shaped our sense of compassion and love? Join us in this discussion. Tuesday, February 3 Getting Comfortable With Computers at the Library 10:00 a.m. San Juan Island Library, free. This 4 week course is designed for participants with no previous computer knowledge. Class size is limited so registration is required. The San Juan Island Library offers Lapsit and Linger for parents, infants and toddlers each Thursday morning at the San Juan Island Library from 10:00 to 11:00. Parents and toddlers are invited for stories, songs, and socializing. Literary Salon at the Lopez Library on the third Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m. in the library’s fireplace room.
