The 2016 TAP showcased great dancers and community spirit on June 17 and 18. Now its time to replace those tappers with running/walking shoes for the 37th annual, tpre-parade, 4th of July fun run/walk. What an energetic and fun way to start this marvelous day by maintaining your fitness while helping the Lopez Community. And we mean fun with a capital F! This annual event, as in past years, has electronically timed 10 kilometer (6.2 miles) and 5 km (3.1 miles) runs, a timed 5 kilometer walk and the one mile family romp.

All proceeds go back to the community; so do yourself, family, visiting friends and the community a favor by joining the fun. There is a distance for everyone. All runs and walks begin promptly at 8:30 a.m. They start and finish at Islander’s Bank in the Village. Race results will be available within minutes of your finish. 4th of July registration is between 7 and 8 a.m. at the Bank. But why wait until the 4th? Pre-registration, plus a beautiful commemorative green tee-shirt can be purchased between noon and 4 p.m. at the Lopez Village Market on Saturday, July 2, and Sunday, July 3. This will alleviate standing in long lines on race day.

Registration can also be accomplished on line at www.lopezisland.com/4thjuly through July 3. By registering early you save money. Pre-registration is $25 with a tee-shirt ($20 if under 12 years old) and $15 without a shirt ($10 if under 12 years). For race day registration the fee is $5 more, and the tee-shirt selection is limited.

Help the Lions Club aid the following organizations through your participation: Family Resource Center, vision and hearing assistance, Prevention Coalition, Cemetery Association and Lopez School programs and field trips. The Lions’ Club also helps sponsor the 4th of July parade, the Christmas Ship and both the food and blood drives.

Let’s set a fund-raising record this year by surpassing our 2015 record of over $7,500! After all, what would the Lopez 4th be like without the fun run/walk, our unique Lopezian parade, grand fireworks and mobs of visitors?
