The San Juan County Sheriff’s Office responded to the following calls.

July 10

• A Lopez deputy responded to a report of found property, which was later returned.

• An Orcas deputy stopped the driver of a vehicle and cited the driver for speeding, 58 MPH in a posted 40 MPH zone.

• A deputy on Orcas responded to a possible violation of a protection order. Following an investigation, the deputy determined no violation had occurred.

• A San Juan deputy conducted a welfare check on an off-loading ferry. An individual was arrested for physical control of a vehicle while under the influence.

• A Lopez deputy stopped a speeding driver on Fisherman Bay Road who received a citation for traveling 41 MPH in a 25 MPH zone.

• On Lopez, a deputy conducted and documented a welfare check.

July 11

• A San Juan deputy took a report of the theft of a watch taken from a local recreation center and added it to a stolen property database for tracking.

• An Orcas deputy issued a citation to the driver of a vehicle parked in a handicap space without displaying a handicap placard.

• A deputy was dispatched to a vehicle prowler in the Village on Lopez.

• On Fisherman Bay Road, a Lopez deputy stopped the driver of a vehicle and issued two citations: one to the driver for 2nd-degree negligent driving; and the other to the passenger for not wearing a seat belt. The driver also received additional warnings.

• A deputy on Orcas conducted a traffic stop and issued the driver a citation for speeding, 52 miles per hour in a 25 miles per hour zone.

• A barking dog on San Juan prompted a report to the Sheriff’s office.

July 12

• A deputy stopped a driver after they made an illegal left turn at the left-turn-prohibited sign at Nichols Street and Argyle Avenue. The driver received a citation for not having a valid driver’s license with ID and a verbal warning for an illegal left turn.

• On San Juan, the Sheriff’s Office responded to a two-moped collision on Cattle Point Road where one driver sustained minor injuries.

• A Lopez man was contacted and urged to connect with local service providers about his living situation.

• A deputy responded to a reported order violation at Moran State Park. The incident was investigated, and no crime was found to be committed. The protected party, however, was referred to the court to request the order be amended to offer greater protection from the respondent.

• San Juan County deputies on marine patrol contacted the owner of a vessel in Westsound and issued the owner a citation because the vessel’s registration decals were from 2021, and the operator did not have a mandatory boater’s education card.

• On Orcas, a deputy cited a speeding driver for traveling 60 MPH in a 35 MPH zone.

• A deputy on Orcas responded to a single-vehicle collision, and arrested the driver for driving under the influence of intoxicating liquor and/or drugs, obstructing a law enforcement officer, and resisting arrest.

July 13

• A person came to the Sheriff’s lobby in Friday Harbor to request persons be trespassed from a property. Trespass letters were signed by the requestor, and added to the case.

• A San Juan deputy responded to a report of a stolen credit card that was used at a local business, Since the business did not have cameras, the suspect was unable to be identified.

• After a San Juan deputy took possession of a found wallet, and the owner did not answer their phone, the wallet was entered into evidence for safekeeping.

• A Lopez deputy responded to a report of an inebriated driver attempting to board a ferry. The individual was contacted and arrested for being in physical control of a vehicle while intoxicated.

July 14

• San Juan deputies responded to a report of a residential burglary. The investigation showed that a juvenile crashed their car and broke a window in a residence. The juvenile was arrested for several offenses including driving under the influence, second-degree malicious mischief, and possession of a controlled substance.

• A Lopez resident requested assistance about the possible theft of a delivered package.

July 15

• A San Juan couple reported that their dinghy was stolen from the Port of Friday Harbor. The perpetrator is from the Marysville area and was seen on video taking the boat. An investigation is underway.

• Deputies on Orcas conducted a welfare check at the request of Adult Protective Services (APS) and forwarded a report to the agency.

July 16

• A deputy on Orcas responded to an animal-at-large complaint and issued two dog owners dog-at-large warnings.

• Lopez deputies were dispatched to a welfare check and contacted the person.

• A Lopez deputy was dispatched to a report of an unwanted person, who was issued a trespass warning letter and departed the property.

• On Orcas, a deputy impounded an abandoned vehicle.

• A deputy on Orcas assisted another law enforcement agency.

• Following the death of a person on Orcas, deputies conducted an investigation.

• Deputies on San Juan responded to a report from Orcas deputies about an order violation. Deputies located the individual, who was then taken into custody and booked into the San Juan County Jail for violating a no-contact order.
