The San Juan County Sheriff’s Office responded to the following calls.

Jan. 23

• A deputy responded to a delayed report of a hit-and-run in Friday Harbor. The caller had no suspect information, no witnesses, no video evidence and requested a report for insurance purposes only. No further investigation is required.

• Deputies were dispatched to a possible theft in Friday Harbor. After further investigation, it was found the matter was civil.

• An Orcas Island deputy was dispatched to an order violation and took a report.

Jan. 24

• A Lopez Island deputy stopped a vehicle on Fisherman Bay Road. The driver was issued a citation for driving 55 mph in a 25 mph zone.

• A deputy on San Juan stopped a driver for a warrant. The driver was arrested on a misdemeanor warrant and for driving with a suspended license in the third degree, and issued a citation for not having insurance.

• Lopez Island deputies were dispatched to a citizen dispute in progress. Statements were collected, and the case is ongoing.

• Deputies responded to a welfare check in Friday Harbor. There was a warrant out for one of the parents who was taken into custody and later bailed out.

• A Lopez Island deputy responded to a person suspected of suffering mental illness. EMS also responded after the person claimed to be having a heart attack. It was confirmed the person was not in medical danger; no additional action was required and a report was completed.

Jan. 25

• An Orcas Island deputy stopped a vehicle on Orcas Road. The driver was subsequently issued a citation for driving 71 mph in a 40 mph zone and warned for not having proof of insurance and a defective brake light.

• A deputy on San Juan responded to a domestic dispute, and a report was taken.

• An Orcas deputy responded to a welfare check in Olga. The subject of concern was found to be fine.

• A Lopez Island deputy was dispatched to a theft call and took a report. The investigation is ongoing.

• An Orcas deputy responded to a nonresidential burglary near Eastsound. After an investigation was completed, the suspects were identified and the case was forwarded to the prosecutor’s office.

• A deputy was dispatched to a domestic dispute in the Friday Harbor area. The caller was contacted and a report was taken.

Jan. 26

• Deputies on marine patrol were dispatched to a report of a fisherman shooting at a seal with a pellet rifle near Sucia Island. The seal was located with severe injuries, was safely captured and transported to Friday Harbor, where it was transfered to Wolf Hollow Wildlife Rehabilitation Center. The investigation continues.

• A deputy on San Juan stopped a vehicle for an expired registration. The driver was issued a citation for having expired registration under two months and defective brake lights.

• Deputies responded to an online harassment complaint. A Lopez resident posted a statement on Facebook that was believed to be a possible threat to harm another resident. Although the posting was inappropriate, deputies determined there was no crime, and a report was completed.

• A Lopez Island deputy responded to a commercial alarm in the Lopez Village. The alarm appeared to have activated due to a mechanical glitch, and a report was completed.

• A deputy on San Juan stopped a driver for speeding. The driver was issued a citation for having expired vehicle registration over two months.

Jan. 27

• A Lopez Island deputy was called about a llama running at-large. The deputy checked the area, but found no llama.

• A Friday Harbor deputy stopped a driver for having expired registration. The driver was issued a citation for not having insurance and given a verbal warning for an expired registration over two months and for failure to change address on his license.

• A deputy on San Juan stopped the driver of a vehicle for speeding and for not wearing a seatbelt. The driver was issued a citation for not having insurance.

• A San Juan deputy stopped a vehicle for an expired registration. The driver was arrested for driving with a suspended license in the third degree and issued a citation for expired registration over two months, no insurance and no registration in vehicle.

Jan. 28

• San Juan deputies stopped a driver for erratic driving. The driver was found to be intoxicated and was booked into jail for driving under the influence.

• A deputy responded to assist Orcas EMS with what was reported as a potentially aggravated patient. Once the deputy arrived, the deputy found the subject was calm and received the necessary medical evaluation.

• A Lopez Island deputy took a report of a canoe and kayak that had been floated off a waterfront property in the recent high tides.

• A deputy was requested to do a civil stand-by as former housemates finished removing personal property from a shared residence on Lopez Island.

• A Friday Harbor deputy stopped a driver for having expired registration. The driver was issued a citation for not having proof of insurance and expired registration over two months.

• A deputy responded to a report of a stolen sign on Orcas Island. There is no evidence to suggest who had taken the sign, and a report was completed.

• A deputy on San Juan stopped a driver for having a defective headlight. The driver was issued a citation for expired registration under two months and no insurance.

Jan. 29

• A deputy responded to a report of a minor accident without injury in Friday Harbor. Neither party involved was injured, both parties had valid insurance and a state collision report was made.

• A deputy responded to a walk-in citizen assist call in Friday Harbor. It was determined that no crime had been committed and an informational report was made at the request of the reporting party.

• A Lopez Island deputy was called for advice about removal of an abandoned vehicle from private property; information was provided to the requesting party.

• A resident on Lopez Island reported an ongoing issue of trespassing at a residence. A trespass warning letter was issued to the

offender.

• An Eastsound business owner requested persons be trespassed from her business. The persons will be located and issued no trespass warning letters.

• A deputy on San Juan stopped a driver for having expired registration and issued the driver a citation for expired vehicle registration over two months.

• Orcas Island deputies responded to a domestic disturbance in the Eastsound area. A male subject was subsequently arrested on a warrant.

• A Friday Harbor deputy issued a citation to a driver for having no proof of current liability insurance, expired vehicle registration over two months and a warning for failing to stop at stop sign.
