The elected Board of Commissioners of San Juan County Fire District No. 4 (Lopez Island Fire & EMS) has determined that funding of EMS services requires a more stable and consistent funding source. Accordingly, a ballot measure for a new Emergency Medical Services Property Tax Levy, Proposition No. 1, has been included on the August 3, 2021, ballot. If approved by the voters, this will authorize an EMS property tax levy at a rate not to exceed $0.50 per thousand dollars of assessed valuation for each of the ten consecutive years beginning in 2022.
The District has created documentation to provide voters with information on why an EMS Levy is needed, how the funds will benefit Lopez Island and how much the new EMS Levy will cost Lopez Island property owners.
