Lopez Island Blood Drive – July 28

Ice cream, cookies, juice and cookbooks, “Oh My!”

Because summer is a tough time to collect blood, three organizations are combining forces for the next Lopez Island Blood Drive. “Give Twice This Summer” is sponsored by Lopez Island Creamery, the Puget Sound Blood Center and Lopez Lions.

The drive will be Tuesday, July 28 from 12 – 6 p.m. at the Community Church in Lopez village. For the second year in a row Lopez Island Creamery will provide blood donors with free gourmet ice cream, Lopez Lion canteen workers will hand out the ever popular cookies and juice and donors who give twice between June 14 and October 3 will receive a certificate for the “Give Twice Cookbook” as a thank you for participating in saving a life.

Summer is a special time of need for our community blood supply. People are on vacation, and high schools and most colleges are not holding blood drives. The result is a significant drop in the blood supply every summer.

You can help. Giving blood is a safe and easy process. The actual donation takes only 7 – 10 minutes. The entire blood donation process is less than an hour. In general those in good health who weigh 110 pounds or more may donate blood. There is no upper age limit for blood donation.

Imagine saving a life. Plan on attending the Lopez Island blood drive July 28 and enjoy Lopez Island Creamery gourmet ice cream.
