Lopez School recently received a state award for its academic progress, reported school officials. The 2013 Washington Achievement Awards recognized Lopez, and other selected districts, for their significant progress toward continuous improvement of student academic achievement.

Lopez Middle and High School was recognized for “High Progress”, which was awarded to schools in the state that have been in the top 10 percent for their rate of school improvement in math and reading over the past three years, as measured by state assessment scores. This achievement recognizes student progress across all categories and subgroups of students.

State Superintendent Randy Dorn, applauded the efforts of the schools recognized, in a recent press release. “ So many schools in our state are doing good work to make a difference for kids”, he said. “These awards represent some of the best. It’s an honor to recognize them and celebrate their success.”

Lopez School officials are proud to receive this recognition and assert that it not only recognizes the achievement of students, but also the hard work of the entire K-12 staff. In a small school, such as Lopez, the influence of all staff is felt by each individual and collective groups of students, and academic success is the manifestation of the collective effort and commitment to excellence of the entire school.

“By lifting up our most successful schools, the Washington Achievement Award shines a light on the best practices that are making (school) success possible,” concluded officials at the Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction in announcing the recipients of these awards.
