Do you need some fresh ideas for marketing an existing or up-and-coming business? If so, mark Dec. 4 on your calendar for the Lopez Island Family Resource Center (LIFRC)’s half-day marketing workshop.

Two business consultants, James Dunn and Brian Jaeger, from Seattle based Washington Community Alliance for Self-Help (CASH) will travel to the island to facilitate the four hour workshop. James Dunn is a social entrepreneur with a unique combination of both business and non-profit experience.

After spending several years in social work, education, and the arts, he turned to business. Dunn spent five years as a regional sales manager and is also the founder of an online network of over 100 vacation websites. He has worked as a business coach/trainer at CASH for the past four years.

Brian Jaeger came to CASH two years ago also with extensive entrepreneurial and management experience. He has worked in the landscaping, restaurant, and hotel development fields. Jaeger enjoys aiding small business owners turn their long-range dreams into action plans that will propel their companies forward.

For both the consultants, this will be their second visit to the island to help local entrepreneurs with their businesses. Last January they met one on one with graduates from LIFRC’s small business class to help them with their marketing plans and received great reviews from the participants.

Dunn and Jaeger understand that effective marketing is more important than ever in this economy, and both are committed to helping other entrepreneurs follow their passions and make money in the process. This interactive workshop will help participants identify and align their product, pricing, placement, promotion, and positioning. Participants will develop their marketing messaging and branding and will come away from the workshop with a one-page marketing plan to implement in their business endeavors.

The workshop was made possible by grants from The San Juan County Economic Development Council, the Harvest Foundation, the Whitney Foundation and United Way and with collaboration by the Lopez Island Library. There is a $30 fee for the session. Space is limited and pre-registration is required no later than Dec. 1. If you would like to sign up for the class or ask questions, contact Patsy Haber at the Family Resource Center on 468-4117 or e-mail lifrc@rockisland.com.
