The San Juan County Sheriff’s Office responded to the following calls.

June 28

• A Lopez Island man reported a suspicious telephone call, suspecting potential misrepresentation and fraud. Upon examination, the telephone call in question was completely legitimate.

• An Orcas deputy issued a notice of infraction for abandoning a vehicle at a local towing establishment.

• A Seattle man contacted Lopez deputies to claim his wallet that had been found at a Lopez Island business. The owner indicated the wallet was returned intact and contained his identification, cash and credit cards.

• An Orcas deputy responded to a report of fraud involving on online purchase.

• A Lopez Island deputy was summoned to remove an unwelcome guest after the guest refused to leave. The subject packed his things and left once contacted by deputies.

• A Lopez deputy spoke with a resident regarding a non-injury vehicle accident. The reporting person stated she was feeling ill and drove off the road while driving home from the ferry. There was no evidence of impairment.

• Deputies responded to a residence on San Juan Island to investigated an unwanted person. Deputies made an arrest for DUI.

June 29

• A Friday Harbor parent called to report a runaway teen. Information and a clothing description were obtained and a juvenile runaway report filed. Deputies checked various possible locations without success. Deputies will continue to watch for the teen.

• A Friday Harbor girl was reported as a runaway. A runaway form was signed and deputies started contacting friends. The girl heard about the search for her and returned home.

• A Lopez Island resident reported someone came into their home without permission to request medication. A deputy explained to the trespasser that he was not allowed to go on to the reporting person’s address in the future.

June 30

• A deputy stopped a vehicle near Lopez Village after he saw the driver was not wearing her seatbelt. He issued her a ticket.

• A deputy in Friday Harbor received a report of a traffic collision. A vehicle trying to get out of traffic hit another vehicle on its side as it moved off.

• Orcas Island deputies were dispatched to a single vehicle accident in the Eastsound area. The driver, a local man, was arrested for driving under the influence.

• A deputy spoke with Lopez Island residents regarding a possible juvenile runaway. The worried parents reported their son had failed to come home by his assigned curfew. He was subsequently located.

• A deputy spoke with Lopez parents about a juvenile problem. It was determined no crime had occurred and a report was completed.

July 1

• Orcas Island deputies were dispatched to a physical altercation involving 10 or more subjects at a local business. The crowd had dispersed by the time deputies arrived on scene. Witnesses of the altercation were interviewed and a report taken. The investigation is ongoing.

• A deputy stopped a motorist and issued a ticket for speeding on Fisherman Bay Road.

• A deputy stopped a motorist on Fisherman Bay Road for speeding. The driver was given a ticket for speeding and not having a driver’s license.

• A deputy observed a vehicle travel through a stop sign in Friday Harbor. The officer attempted to stop the vehicle as the driver fled. After a short pursuit, the driver was taken into custody.

July 2

• A deputy initiated a traffic stop on Orcas. The driver was issued a citation for not wearing a seatbelt.

• A Lopez deputy stopped a vehicle for speeding. The driver was cited for not having a valid operator license.

• A Lopez deputy was dispatched for a dog at large. Attempts to locate the dog and its owner are ongoing.

• A deputy took a report of a burglary at an airport hangar in Eastsound. The reporting party is missing a flight case. There are no known suspects or leads at this time.

• A deputy was contacted in reference to an order violation that occurred in the San Juan Island area. The caller claimed to received phone calls and texts from the friend of an ex-boyfriend. The investigation revealed no crime had been committed.

• A Lopez deputy was contacted in regard to a disagreement that took place between restaurant staff and a patron.

July 3

• A deputy in Friday Harbor received a report of a dog at large. The dog was returned to the owner, who was issued a warning letter.

• A new Lopez resident reported fraud after a landlord had misrepresented a rental. The victim and his family moved from Montana only to find an “uninhabitable shell.” The victim is attempting to find other housing while dealing with the landlord.

• A Lopez deputy took a report of a suspicious subject showing up uninvited at a residence.

• A Lopez deputy took a request for a welfare check from an out of state relative on a Lopez resident. The resident was found in good health.

• A Lopez deputy was called to assist a motorist who locked their keys in the car. The vehicle was gone when the deputy arrived.

• A deputy was assigned an agency assist on San Juan Island. The reporting deputy contacted the reporting agency in reference to possible child abuse.

• A vehicle on Orcas was pulled over for speeding 54 mph in a posted 35 mph zone and cited.

• A Lopez deputy was sent to investigate a disturbance near Hummel Lake. Two adult males were located in the area. They apologized for being noisy and were sent on their way.

July 4

• An Orcas deputy initiated a traffic stop on Mt. Baker Road and issued the driver an infraction for speeding 39 mph in 25 mph zone.

• A Lopez Island deputy came upon a traffic hazard – a broken down vehicle on a busy road – and stood by until assistance arrived to remove the vehicle.

• A vehicle was parked on Main Street in Eastsound, blocking a lane of traffic. The owner arrived nearly an hour later and was issued a parking ticket.

• A deputy investigated a juvenile that did not return home on San Juan Island.

July 5

• Deputies in Friday Harbor received a report of people screaming and yelling. The deputies discovered that juveniles in the area were drinking, and 10 of them were arrested for consuming and possessing alcohol.
