Beginning Jan. 2 when the Lopez Solid Waste Disposal District takes over operation of the Lopez Island Dump, the facility will be open from noon to 3 p.m. Wednesdays, Saturdays, and Sundays. This will be a change from the current 4 p.m. closure. On May 15 the hours will be extended two hours with the Dump open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The schedule will even out the seasonal demands.

On Saturday, Jan. 5, the 3 p.m. closing will coincide with a public Grand Opening ceremony to mark the occasion of the transition from county to LSWDD management. As part of the celebration, refreshments will be served at the Take-It-Or-Leave-It throughout the opening hours on that day.
