New public art sculpture

The Lopez Island community has a great opportunity to support a public art sculpture by the extremely talented local carver Bruce Richardson. By now you will have been familiar with some of Richardson’s other generous public interest gifts to the community that include the large frog at the Lopez Community Center and seal outside the library. Most of his large pieces are carved out of local Lopez Island glacial granite boulders, which gives them a special connection with the community. His latest piece, “the Cat,” is a huge piece slated to be sited at the new Family Resource Center/Lopez Fit building. Richardson’s generous donation of hundreds of hours on these pieces is a compelling commitment to the Lopez community. However, the extra cost of moving and securing a foundation for “the Cat” will require some thousands of dollars. Please visit the Lopez Rocks website (www.lopezrocks.org) and consider a donation to help offset these costs.
