The San Juan County Sheriff’s Office responded to the following calls.

Feb. 2

• Lopez deputies responded to a domestic incident and arrested a person for third-degree domestic violence-malicious mischief and domestic violence assault-fourth degree.

• A San Juan deputy responded to a report of found property at a local business. The owner was located and the property was returned.

Feb. 3

• A Lopezian called for assistance with their landline phone, which was not working. A deputy helped the citizen contact the phone company and assisted in setting up an appointment to fix the phone line.

Feb. 4

• Deputies on San Juan conducted a welfare check, contacted the party, and learned they were okay.

• A deputy was approached about an incident where a person may have almost hit someone while in Eastsound. The investigation is ongoing.

• An investigation continues into a report of vehicle theft on San Juan.

• A Lopez deputy responded to a citizen dispute. Two neighbors were feuding over a property line. The situation is being monitored.

• A deputy on Orcas responded to a report of a lost purse. The purse was located and returned with all its contents intact.

• A San Juan deputy responded to a report of a domestic incident. Based on an investigation, a crime did not appear to have been committed.

Feb. 5

• An Orcas resident requested a property watch at their property. Area checks will be conducted.

• A deputy on San Juan responded to a welfare check at the request of a citizen. The involved parties were contacted and all appeared to be fine at the residence.

• A San Juan deputy was told a person possessed firearms unlawfully. A search warrant was served on their residence and numerous firearms and other weapons were seized, including a stolen handgun. The suspect was jailed on several new felony and misdemeanor charges.

• A deputy on Orcas stopped the driver of a vehicle for speeding on Olga Road near Loon Song Road and issued them a citation for traveling 50 mph in a 35 mph zone.

• San Juan deputies responded to a report of an airplane off the runway at Friday Harbor Airport. The aircraft was damaged but there were no injuries. It appears there was an equipment failure on the aircraft, causing it to turn upon landing.

• A deputy on Lopez responded to a noise complaint. A group having a late-night bonfire with music was given a warning for noise, and they agreed to turn the music down.

Feb. 6

• A Lopez resident contacted a deputy about dropping off prescription drugs in the drug take-back box at the substation.

Feb. 7

• A Lopez deputy was called about a vehicle stuck in the ditch. Upon investigation, it was determined the driver had driven across a park area and attempted to access the road across the ditch and got stuck. The driver was ticketed for driving with wheels off the roadway; no injury or damages were reported.

• A deputy on San Juan responded to a report of threats made on social media. After talking with the caller, there was no articulable evidence a crime was committed.

• A San Juan deputy stopped a motorcycle for failing to drive to the right of a roundabout and issued the driver a citation for not having motorcycle endorsement and multiple warnings.

Feb. 8

• A Lopez resident returning home from their morning walk discovered an unknown driver had struck a road sign and an OPALCO power base, narrowly missing the meter. There was no damage to the power base and no reported outage.

• A deputy on San Juan responded to a report of an abandoned vehicle on a public road near Roche Harbor. The vehicle had flat tires and a broken-out back window. The vehicle was tagged with an abandoned vehicle sticker.

• An Orcas deputy responded to a report of an animal problem.

• Deputies were dispatched to a welfare check in the Eastsound area. The subject was taken into protective custody and transported to San Juan for treatment.

•San Juan deputy responded to a report of a theft. The incident appeared civil at the time.

• A deputy on San Juan responded to a report of a person who ingested a combination of drugs. When the deputy arrived, the subject struck the deputy in the face. Subsequently, the person was arrested for third-degree assault and booked into jail.
