The San Juan County Sheriff’s Office responded to the following calls.

Aug. 30

• A deputy on Orcas stopped the driver of a vehicle for speeding and issued the driver citations for traveling 62 mph in a 40 mph zone, for not having a driver’s license with ID, and for not having insurance.

• A San Juan deputy took a report of fraud. The reporting party noticed suspicious charges on their account and provided information on a possible suspect. This investigation is ongoing.

• A deputy on Orcas was dispatched to a report of vandalism.

• On Orcas, a deputy was dispatched to a report of a theft.

• Orcas deputies were dispatched to a theft call. The reporting party eventually located the item, due to the spouse accidentally having it. No crime was committed and the case was closed.

• Deputies responded to a vandalism call on Orcas. The reporting party said the catalytic converter from their car was halfway sawed off. The investigation is ongoing.

• In Friday Harbor, deputies responded to a report of threats with a knife. The reporting party was not the victim, but rather a witness. The victim had not reported the incident to the Sheriff’s Office, and the individual with the knife was contacted.

• A deputy on San Juan took a report of threats. The reporting party had received messages that made them concerned with their property. They did not wish to pursue criminal charges.

• On San Juan, a deputy responded to a report of active trespassing in a residence. The deputy located the individual inside of a house they had been trespassed from. The individual was taken into custody and booked into jail for first-degree criminal trespassing.

• A deputy on San Juan responded to a welfare check because a person was concerned for their friend’s health. The reporting party was informed that deputies had contact with the involved individual earlier in the day.

Aug. 31

• A San Juan deputy stopped the driver of a vehicle for speeding. The driver was unable to provide proof of insurance and was issued a citation for that violation, along with a verbal warning for speeding.

• Orcas deputies were dispatched to a fraud call. The fraud involved the use of Facebook and PayPal services. The investigation is ongoing.

• A deputy was dispatched to an order violation in the Friday Harbor area. The deputy spoke to the person reporting the incident who provided a written statement on the incident. Investigation continues.

• An Orcas deputy stopped the driver of a vehicle in town. The driver, a visitor to the island, received a citation for speeding 45 mph in a 25 mph zone.

• A deputy on San Juan received a report of a found dog. The owner was located and the deputy returned the dog to the owner, who received a dog-at-large warning letter.

Sept. 1

• A deputy was dispatched to a reported domestic incident in the Friday Harbor area. The deputy arrived and contacted the people involved. The argument was only verbal and the people agreed to separate.

• Orcas deputies were dispatched to a civil call in Eastsound. A civil standby was conducted, and the incident was documented.

• Deputies were dispatched to a report of what appeared to be a bag of drugs in Eastsound. The item was collected and booked into evidence.

• A deputy on San Juan was dispatched to a report of a dog attack. One dog owner was issued a citation for a public nuisance – a dog.

Sept. 2

• An Orcas deputy responded to a hit-and-run. An unknown make or model truck backed into a parked scooter causing minor damage and left the area. A report was taken for insurance purposes.

• A San Juan deputy took a report of possible gas siphoning. Potential video surveillance footage of the incident is being sought. The investigation is ongoing.

• Deputies on Orcas responded to a possible domestic incident. After an investigation was completed it was found there was no crime and it was just a civil argument.

• A deputy on Orcas was dispatched to a welfare check. There was a vehicle parked in a lane of travel with their hazard lights on. After arriving on the scene the deputy called for aid, and the single occupant was flown off island to rule out head trauma.

Sept. 3

• A Lopez deputy was contacted regarding a disruptive person with behavioral health challenges.

• An Orcas deputy responded to an assault call at Moran State Park. An unidentified suspect assaulted an employee near Mountain Lake. The suspect fled the area prior to law enforcement’s arrival. The investigation is ongoing.

• A deputy on San Juan stopped the driver of a vehicle for speeding, who was then issued a citation for traveling 64 mph in a 45 mph zone.

• A deputy took a report of possible trespassing on San Juan. Individuals returned home to find their dog had been let out of its crate and their door was locked. Besides the dog, nothing was missing or out of place in the house.

Sept. 4

• A Lopez deputy responded to a trespassing call. A drunk individual wandered onto his neighbor’s property and began screaming in the middle of the night. The deputy was unable to locate the drunk individual then, but they were arrested the following morning.

• A Lopez man was arrested and booked into jail for malicious mischief after destroying his neighbor’s shed with a chainsaw. The incident started over a property line/easement use disagreement.

• A deputy on Orcas responded to a theft complaint and determined the complaint was unfounded.

• A deputy responded to a local business on Orcas. The business owner wanted an individual given a trespass warning letter and informed they would be arrested if they went to the business again. The person was contacted, informed, and signed stating they understood.

• A deputy on San Juan took a report of someone sharing photographs without consent. An investigation was conducted.

Sept. 5

• San Juan deputies responded to a report of a person having a health crisis. The individual was transported to the hospital for evaluation.

• A Lopez resident provided a photo of a juvenile she caught entering her car. Charges will forwarded to the court.

• A deputy responded to two dogs causing a public nuisance near Eastsound. The dogs were located and the owner was given a warning letter and explained the penalties and possible charges if the behavior were to continue.

• Deputies responded to a report of an individual smoking suspected drugs in a restaurant bathroom in Friday Harbor. The deputies located the individual and took them into custody on an out-of-county felony warrant. Suspected fentanyl was located and sent for analysis.
