The San Juan County Sheriff’s Office responded to the following calls:

March 21

• A Lopez deputy responded to a report of an unwanted person who was gone when the deputy arrived.

• A San Juan deputy was dispatched to a report of suspicious circumstances. A property owner said someone was on her beach or in a boat near her residence and asked the deputy to check the area.

• A deputy in Friday Harbor conducted a traffic stop on a driver who did not stop at a stop sign. An infraction was issued.

• A Lopez deputy responded to a citizen dispute. The reporting person tried to contact a driver she had previously witnessed driving in a reckless manner. The reporting person dropped the complaint after the suspect apologized.

March 22

• A Friday Harbor deputy initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle for failing to stop at a stop sign, and the driver was issued a ticket.

• A deputy responded to an Eastsound business on a reported theft. Cash and two electronics were found to be missing in February and had yet to be recovered. The investigation continues.

• A deputy was dispatched to a domestic violence incident in Friday Harbor. The investigation continues.

• A Lopez deputy responded to a suspicious circumstance call. A caller reported seeing a discarded handgun along a Lopez Island road. The deputy located the item, determined it was a toy gun and disposed of it.

• Deputies responded to a dispute over dogs at large on San Juan Island. The owner was given a warning and advised on county dog regulations.

• An Orcas deputy conducted a traffic stop. The driver was given a citation for speeding 41 mph in a 25 mph zone.

March 23

• The reporting deputy was dispatched to a hit-and-run in the Friday Harbor area. The reporting person noticed damage to a work vehicle. A report was taken.

• The reporting deputy was contacted in reference to a harassment report. The caller said that the subject had been called names in a store. A report was taken.

• A deputy located a wanted person in Eastsound. The subject was arrested.

• A deputy responded to a complaint of people consuming alcohol in a vehicle. Deputies found the vehicle on the roadway and initiated a traffic stop for a violation. The driver was believed to be impaired by alcohol and was arrested, processed and released.

• The sheriff made a traffic stop on a vehicle that drove around a road-closed sign in the construction zone at the Tucker Avenue and Harbor Street intersection on San Juan. The vehicle was traveling northbound and went into the oncoming lane, forcing vehicles traveling southbound to stop.

• A deputy stopped a vehicle on Fisherman Bay Road on Lopez for speeding. He issued the driver a ticket for expired vehicle registration and for not having a driver’s license. He gave the driver a verbal warning for speeding.

March 24

• A deputy responded to a Lopez Island bar after multiple customers threatened to assault an employee. The offending patrons were “trespassed from the property” and the deputy advised that if they returned, they would face criminal prosecution.

• Deputies responded to an assault complaint at a Lopez Island residence. It was determined that the incident happened after residents became annoyed at loud drunken neighbors. The involved parties declined filing charges and the matter was resolved.

• An Orcas Island man reported being threatened by an unwanted person. A report was taken.

• The reporting deputy was contacted at the sheriff’s office in reference to a civil problem. The reporting deputy contacted all the involved parties and is investigating the incident.

• A deputy on Orcas responded to a possible domestic dispute. An informational report was taken.

• Lopez Island deputies responded to Odlin Park on a 911 hang-up call. A young person, in a group at the park, had dialed 911, believing the phone did not work. The youth were taught the appropriate use of 911.

• A Lopez resident requested contact regarding a drone that was flying over his residence. A deputy checked the surrounding properties, but the operator was not located.

• A deputy on Orcas stopped a vehicle for speeding, not using a turn signal and having a defective brake light. The driver was issued an infraction for speeding 40 mph in a 25 mph zone.

• A Lopez deputy issued a citation to an Oregon man who was driving 41 mph in a 25 mph zone of Fisherman Bay Road.

• A Lopez deputy investigated a single-vehicle collision on Fisherman Bay Road. The driver was issued a citation and a report was completed.

March 25

• A Lopez Island resident called a deputy with concerns about traffic in the caller’s neighborhood and requested extra patrols.

• A Lopez deputy was sent to investigate an alarm sounding at a southend residence. A septic alarm was going off and the property owner was notified.

• A Lopez deputy was called about a wandering herd of sheep in the caller’s pasture. The owner was identified, and the animals were collected and returned home.

• An Orcas deputy stopped a driver, who the deputy knew from previous contacts due to the driver not having a valid driver’s license. The driver was issued an infraction for no valid operator’s license with ID.

• A deputy responded to a report of a disturbance in the parking lot of the hospital in regard to a traffic offense that occurred on Roche Harbor Road. It was found that the driver involved was rushing a male to the emergency room. A report was made.

• An Orcas deputy stopped a vehicle for not having a rear license plate. The driver was issued an infraction for not having insurance.

• Multiple witnesses watched a female driver exit a car and a male passenger grab her by the hair, pulling her back into the car while hitting her. The witnesses stopped him. The female fled on foot. Deputies arrived and arrested the male for assault.

March 26

• An abandoned vehicle was found on a private roadway. The registered owner information included a phone number that was disconnected. The deputy advised registered letters be sent.

• A Lopez Island deputy was sent to check on cows reportedly out on Fisherman Bay Road, creating a traffic hazard. The owner was notified, and had the cows returned by the time the deputy had arrived.

• A deputy responded to a welfare check in Friday Harbor and a report was completed.

March 27

• Deputies were dispatched to a report of domestic violence in Friday Harbor. The suspect was unable to be located. The investigation continues.

• A deputy responded to an early-morning alarm in Eastsound. The owner of the property was home, and it was discovered the alarm was malfunctioning.

• An Orcas deputy responded to a report of dogs at large in Eastsound that were behaving aggressively. An investigation was conducted.

• A caller reported being worried that 15 dogs being walked by one person may cause issues for horseriders on San Juan. The caller wanted the dog walker to be reminded to keep better control of the dogs. The walker was called and a message was left.

• A deputy was dispatched to a two-vehicle traffic accident in Friday Harbor. The reporting deputy arrived and contacted the persons involved. An infraction was issued to one of the drivers for failing to drive on the right side of the road.

• A Friday Harbor resident reported fraudulent activity. The investigation continues.

• A Lopez Island deputy took a report from a resident of threats being made against the victim and victim’s family. The matter is under investigation.

• An Eastsound man was stopped and ticketed for speeding 50 mph in a 35 zone on Hummel Lake Road on Lopez Island.

• An Orcas deputy stopped a vehicle for having expired registration. The driver was issued a criminal citation for driving on a suspended license in the third degree, as well as an infraction for not having insurance.
