San Juan County Sheriff’s Office responded to the following calls.
Sept. 14
• A Lopez man reported that his computer had been attacked by a virus that was attached to an email.
• While patrolling, an Orcas Island deputy identified a vehicle that was speeding on Orcas Road. A vehicle stop was conducted and the driver was cited.
• While patrolling the Eastsound area an Orcas Island deputy located an abandoned vehicle. The deputy removed the vehicle.
Sept. 15
• A teacher from Paideia School in Friday Harbor complained that a dog was barking at the children at recess. The teacher said she posted a note on the owner’s door to see if they could come to an agreement.
• A San Juan deputy was dispatched to an unwanted person in Friday Harbor. The unwanted person left before the deputy’s arrival. The business is drafting a letter of trespass.
• A Lopez deputy responded to a found property complaint on Mud Bay Road. The deputy located the property owner and returned the property.
• A Friday Harbor resident called to report theft of medications. She said while visiting a friend a week ago she indulged in recreational drug use and said the friends stole her medication while she was high.
• A deputy in Friday Harbor received a report of a disturbance or possible assault. One of the people involved was having mental problems.
• A Lopez deputy was dispatched to a single vehicle collision with a fence on a Port Stanley Rd. The vehicle was unoccupied, but the driver was located and cited.
• A Lopez deputy was dispatched for a report of CPR in progress. The victim suffered an apparent cardiac arrest and passed away despite lifesaving measures administered by EMS.
• An Eastsound resident reported being the victim of online fraud from NY.
• A San Juan deputy was dispatched to a report of unwanted persons in Friday Harbor. Upon the arrival of the deputy both individuals left. They were instructed not to return.
• A deputy in FH received a report of malicious mischief. It was reported that someone had spray-painted a sign on private property.
• An Orcas Island deputy was dispatched to an Eastsound construction site regarding the theft of a portable toilet.
• An Orcas Island deputy responded to a residential burglary report in Eastsound. There is no suspect and there was no evidence found at the scene.
• A San Juan Island deputy conducted a late night traffic stop and found the driver was under the influence. The male driver was arrested, processed and released with a promise to appear in court. His vehicle was impounded.
Sept. 17
• A Lopez deputy took a pitbull-mix into custody after the dog was running at large and followed joggers home. The dog was friendly, but did not go home on its own. The dog had no tags. The owner received a warning after claiming the dog.
Sept. 18
• A Lopez deputy was dispatched to a single vehicle collision with a tree. The driver was unhurt and not under the influence.
• A deputy responded to a report that a naked man had entered an occupied unlocked home on Orcas Island. The man was found on a neighbor’s deck. The man was reportedly impaired on drugs. He was medically cleared and released to the care of a relative.
• An Orcas deputy was dispatched to an Eastsound business in reference to a dog at large. The friendly dog was running around the downtown area. The deputy transported the dog to the shelter.
• While on patrol, an Orcas Island deputy observed a vehicle that was speeding. A traffic stop was conducted and the driver was cited for speeding on Orcas Road.
• An Eastsound resident reported minor damage to his vehicle at Doe Bay, by an unknown vehicle.
• A vehicle window was broken and a purse taken at the south Turtleback trailhead on Orcas Island.
• A visitor reported the theft of items from their unlocked vehicle in the Orcas ferry line. There were no witnesses.
• Several victims reported an assault that occurred in the San Juan area.
Sept. 19
• A Lopez deputy was called to a Lopez Village business about an abandoned bicycle. A bag of personal property was scattered around the bicycle which was locked into the bike rack. The loose property was taken for safekeeping.
• A FH resident removed an item from the Friday Harbor Pharmacy without paying. The subject was later identified and admitted to “accidentally” taking the item. The manager did not press charges.
• Orcas deputies stopped a driver who was speeding on Orcas Road and issued a citation.
• A San Juan Island deputy responded to a property on Mitchell Bay Road in reference to pieces of a truck dumped at that property. The pieces are related to a stolen vehicle from Snohomish County.
• A Lopez deputy was sent to the school on a report of a brown boxer running at large. The dog was located at the baseball field. A man who claimed to be dog sitting said he thought the dog would remain in the area while he played tennis.
• An Orcas deputy conducted a traffic stop in Eastsound for a vehicle with expired registration. The driver was found to have a revoked driver’s license out of Colorado. The driver was cited and the vehicle was impounded.
Sept. 20
• A student from Friday Harbor High School was reported for assaulting another student and attempting to assault a teacher. The juvenile was taken into custody and juvenile services was contacted.
• A Lopez deputy along with fire-rescue crews were sent to rescue an injured dog that had fallen off a cliff on Upright Head. Two civilian rescuers were helped back to safety by responders. The dog suffered a broken leg and was rescued by others from the water side.
• An Orcas Island deputy recognized a male driver who had a suspended driver’s license in the third degree. Contact was made with the driver who was cited with a criminal citation for driving while license is suspended in the third degree. The vehicle was impounded.
• A Lopez deputy, along with EMS personnel, responded to a missing person complaint on Fisherman Bay Road. The person was reported to be suffering from dementia, and was quickly found.
• A Lopez deputy investigated a possible hit-and-run. The witness stated she believed an unidentified vehicle struck an unoccupied vehicle on Fisherman Bay Rd. The owner of the vehicle didn’t file a complaint.
