On Sunday, Oct. 16 from 2 to 4 p.m., delightful and delicious high tea will return to the Lopez Center for a second time. Last year’s event was such a huge success, the Committee decided that high yea should become an annual tradition.

What is high tea? Wikipedia says: “a formal afternoon tea that is for a special occasion.” For Lopezians it means getting all dressed up in our fanciest outfits and hats to sit down with our friends to share the joy of tiny sandwiches, scones, sweet tarts and tea. Some of us may even decide to have a bit of champagne.

From the moment we arrive we will find ourselves in a space transformed by gorgeous paper flowers and exquisite tables, set with porcelain teapots, teacups and sugar bowls. Sparkling glass pots of clotted cream and jam are arranged on tiered platters of sweet and savory refreshments prepared by Cordon Bleu pastry Chef Stephanie Smith and her team at Holly B’s Bakery.

The High Tea Fashion Show, directed by fashionista Jennifer Turunen of Deja Vu, will captivate us, while the beautiful music of Becky Johnson and Joyce Lyster moves us to another time and place. We can find delicate gift items in the High Tea Boutique and have our portraits taken by professional photographer, Heather Harrison.

It all adds up to an unforgettable afternoon designed for fine ladies and gentlemen and their guests.

Tickets may be purchased at Lopez Bookshop, Paper Scissors on the Rock, Lopez Center, Blossom Organic Grocery, or on-line at: www.lopezcenter.org. Adult tickets are $35 and youth (12 and under) tickets are $20. Space is limited so get your tickets early. Children are warmly invited. It will be an afternoon we will not soon forget.
