Aug. 2

• A Lopez Island resident turned in a bag of found property. The bag was recovered from the day-use area of a local park, there have been no leads on the owner of the property.

Aug. 3

• A deputy was dispatched to a traffic accident that occurred on San Juan Island. After further investigation the person was issued a citation for driving without a license.

• Lopez Island deputies were called to a south end residence in reference to a report of a man destroying property. It was determined that the damaged items belonged to the man. After deputies calmed the man down, they found no evidence of a crime.

• Lopez Island firefighters reported that a motorist failed to yield to the right of way of fire trucks responding with red lights and sirens. The motorist nearly collided with a fire engine. The matter is under investigation.

• A deputy in Friday Harbor received a report of a possible order violation. The investigation showed that there was no order in the system. The deputy assisted the citizen with how the situation could be handled and how to obtain an order.

• At 10:54 p.m. a deputy was conducting a business check when the deputy discovered an intoxicated person. This person was found to be on alcohol conditions with the court. The report was forwarded to the probation department.

• A person walked in to the Orcas sub-station to report a theft from the Mt. Baker Cemetery. A report was taken.

• A Lopez deputy was dispatched for a vehicle theft that occurred two years ago. The incident was found to be a civil property dispute between estranged family members.

• A deputy in Friday Harbor received a report of a dog bite. It was reported that a juvenile was bitten by the family dog. The juvenile was treated at the hospital for injuries.

• A deputy responded to a citizen dispute on Orcas Island. After further investigation it was determined the incident was civil in nature. A report was taken.

• A citizen found an iPod Touch and LG cell phone in Friday Harbor and brought them into the sheriff’s office.

• A subject on Orcas was contacted and cited for smoking marijuana in public.

• Two vehicles were given tickets for parking in prohibited places in Obstruction Pass County Dock area on Orcas Island.

• A Lopez deputy was contacted regarding a vehicle prowl that occurred the previous day at a park. An informational report was taken.

• An Orcas deputy conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle traveling 40 mph in a 25 mph speed zone in Eastsound. The driver was issued an infraction for speeding.

Aug. 6

• A deputy stopped a motorist in the 1500 block of Mud Bay Road on Lopez after he saw him speeding and issued him a ticket.

• Deputies responded to an assault call in Eastsound on Orcas Island. After talking with both parties a report was taken.

• Deputies received a report of a dog at large on Center Road near Lopez Hill. The animal was released to the owner with a warning letter.

• A driver was recognized as not having a valid license and was stopped by an Orcas deputy. The driver was cited for not having a valid driver’s license and not having proof of insurance.

Aug. 7

• A driver in Eastsound was given a ticket for using their cell phone while driving.

• A deputy responded to Tucker Avenue in Friday Harbor in reference to a death investigation. He made contact with family members and a detective processed the scene.

• A Lopez Island deputy was called to check on a dog left in a vehicle parked in Lopez Village. The dog owner was in the vehicle when contacted by the deputy. The vehicle interior was not dangerously hot, and the dog did not appear to be in distress. No further action was needed.

• A deputy responded to the Orcas Ferry Terminal regarding a dispute. The persons involved were interviewed. No one wished to pursue charges and they continued to travel home to the mainland.

• A Lopez deputy was dispatched to a report of a man trespassing at the Lopez Island dump after hours. The man was contacted and willingly departed the area.

• A Lopez deputy was dispatched for a suicidal subject. The subject was flown off island for treatment.

Aug. 8

• Deputies were called about theft of fuel out of an airplane on Blakely Island. A report was taken.

• A Lopez Island deputy was sent to investigate a flock of reportedly abandoned sheep. The animals were found to be in good shape with both an owner and caretaker were identified.

• A Lopez Island resident reported that someone had entered her home and garage and removed property. A report was taken and the case is under investigation.

• Deputies received a report of a hit-and-run with no injuries on Orcas Island. A report was made and pictures were taken.

• A Lopez Island deputy was called to a traffic hazard which was created by a contractor moving a large piece of equipment that damaged the roadway. Public works was subsequently called to resolve the matter.

• A Lopez Island deputy stopped a man for speeding on Mud Bay Road near Cousins Road. The driver was issued a ticket for speeding.

• A Lopez Island woman reported that the side window of her car was shattered while parked at a Lopez Island business. A report was taken.

• A deputy stopped a driver in Eastsound for failing to yield at a stop sign and for using a cell phone while driving. The driver was cited for cell phone use while driving and given a warning for failing to yield.

• A driver in Eastsound was stopped for driving 52 mph in a 35 mph speed zone. The driver was issued an infraction

• A deputy was dispatched to a reported hit-and-run collision at the Orcas Ferry Terminal. A license plate was obtained. A deputy responded to the registered owner’s residence. Further investigation determined the driver was under the influence. The driver was arrested for driving under the influence.

Aug. 9

• An Orcas deputy spoke to a parent that was having problems with a teenage child. The parent was able to obtain advice on how to proceed, including contacting juvenile services. A report was taken.

• A Lopez Island deputy took a report of a driver that had failed to yield to the right of way of an ambulance responding to a call with red lights activated. The car, registered out of state, could not be found.

• A minor reported to the sheriff’s office that she received multiple unsolicited and inappropriate communications from an adult male in Friday Harbor.

• An Orcas Island man reported fraud that occurred with his bank account. A report was taken.

• A deputy stopped a motorist and issued a ticket for failure to stop at a stop sign.

• At 11:54 p.m. a deputy in Friday Harbor conducted a security check of a business. The deputy discovered a person sleeping in a storage shed. The person was informed that he was trespassing.

Aug. 10

• At about 1 a.m., a deputy found a known transient man sleeping in a sleeping bag in the Village Green Park. The defendant has been previously cited for this on San Juan County Land Bank property. The defendant was given an infraction and sent on his way.

• A deputy issued a motorist a speeding ticket in the 2700 block of Fisherman Bay Road, Lopez Island.

• A deputy in Friday Harbor received a report of a traffic collision. The investigation showed that the driver was intoxicated and had left the scene. The driver was arrested for DUI and for a hit-and-run.

Aug. 11

• A deputy in Friday Harbor received a report of a disorderly person on the ferry bound for Friday Harbor. The deputy talked to the person involved and it was apparent that the subject was suffering from mental issues. No one was assaulted or threatened.

• Deputies responded to a Friday Harbor residence in reference to a domestic violence incident in progress. One of the parties involved was taken into custody for assault and malicious mischief.

• Deputies were called about a civil matter between two businesses in Eastsound on Orcas Island. Both parties were talked to and an informational report was taken.

• A Lopez deputy was dispatched to a disorderly subject in the ferry line after the subject was asked to go to the back of the line during loading. The subject’s behavior did not rise to the level of a crime, but he was warned about ferry protocol and appropriate public behavior.

• A Lopez deputy was dispatched for a vandalism report. An outbuilding had a door damaged, but nothing was missing. There is no suspect information at this time.

• A deputy received a report of a suspicious circumstance in Friday Harbor. The deputy contacted the people involved and documented the suspicious circumstance.

• A deputy issued a speeding ticket to a motorist after he saw him exceeding the posted speed limit in the 2200 block of Mud Bay Road on Lopez.

• A Friday Harbor man was reported for being in violation of his no alcohol conditions. Deputies contacted him and saw that he was intoxicated. He also refused to take the breath test, a second violation. The report was forwarded to the court for action.

• Deputies were called to a welfare check of a child wandering down the middle of the road on Orcas. Deputies arrived and the situation was settled.

• A vehicle was pulled over for speeding, 53 mph in a 35 mph zone. The driver had no proof of insurance upon demand and was given a ticket.

• Deputies responded to the Orcas ferry landing for found property. The owners of the items were contacted and their belongings were returned.

Aug 12

• A deputy was dispatched to a welfare check on a male in a vehicle in Friday Harbor. Contact was made and the male was transported via ambulance for a medical issue.

• A deputy received a complaint of theft in Friday Harbor. No further action was taken.

• A deputy was dispatched to a possible order violation in Friday Harbor. The investigation is ongoing.

• Deputies stopped a vessel in Roche Harbor for violating a no-wake zone area. The operator was contacted and given warning for the violation and a vessel safety inspection was completed.

• A driver was stopped on Orcas for traveling 59 mph in a posted 40 mph zone and was cited for speeding.

Aug. 13

• The reporting deputy was contacted in reference to a malicious mischief incident that occurred in the San Juan Island area. The victim reported that his vehicle had been damaged overnight. Photos of the damage were taken. The investigation continues.

• At 2 a.m., an Orcas deputy was dispatched to a Deer Harbor residence in regards to an assault that occurred in Eastsound earlier. Medical attention was declined. A report was taken.

• A deputy was dispatched to a vehicle prowl in progress in the San Juan Island area. The reporting deputy arrived and checked the area. No suspect was located. The investigation continues.

• A deputy was dispatched to a suspicious circumstance in the Friday Harbor area. The reporting deputy was able to locate the source of the noise and confirm it was of “natural origin.” No other action was needed.

• A deputy responded to an address within the Town of Friday Harbor for a medical call. The subject was transported to the hospital via ambulance.

• Deputies responded to the hospital in Friday Harbor in reference to a patient that had called 911 from the ER and threatened to assault the medical personnel if he did not get what he wanted. The caller was contacted and cautioned about the threats he made and the abuse to the 911 dispatcher.

• A reporting party stated that unknown persons were tampering with his crab pots at three different location in and around the Port of Friday Harbor and in Discovery Bay on Lopez Island.

• Deputies responded to a residence on San Juan Island to investigate a verbal dispute. Deputies resolved the issues and left without further enforcement action.

Aug. 14

• A deputy conducted a traffic stop in Eastsound. The driver was uncooperative during the stop. After infractions were issued, the driver followed the deputies to their patrol cars in an aggressive manner. He failed to follow instructions. Charges of obstructing an officer are being forwarded.

• A Lopez Island deputy provided a jump start to a vehicle in the ferry line.

• A deputy initiated seven separate traffic stops in Friday Harbor and each driver was issued an infraction for failure to wear their seat belt.

• A Lopez Island deputy was called regarding a stray dog running in the roadway. The dog was captured by a passerby and turned over to the deputy. While putting the dog into the kennel, the dog bit the deputy. The dog owners came and claimed the dog about an hour later. A report was filed.

• A Friday Harbor resident was taken into custody while on a routine traffic stop. The driver was found to have a local warrant for driving with a suspended license and was still driving suspended. This incident occurred in the area of Jensen Alley and Tucker Road.

• A deputy observed a probation violation that occurred in the Friday Harbor area. The report was forwarded to courts for action.

• Deputies responded to a residence on San Juan Island to investigate a domestic assault incident. Deputies placed a male subject under arrest.

• The reporting deputy was dispatched to an assault in the San Juan Island area. The reporting deputy arrived and investigated the incident. There was no evidence of a crime at the scene but the investigation continues.

Aug. 15

• Deputies responded to an Orcas resident’s report of a vehicle prowl. Deputies conducted an investigation.

• Deputies on Orcas were informed of a juvenile using drugs. A report was taken and forwarded to juvenile services.

• A deputy in Friday Harbor received a report of a suspicious circumstance. This case is still under investigation to determine if a crime has been committed.

• A deputy stopped a vehicle for driving 57 mph in a 25 mph speed zone on Orcas Island. The driver was cited for speeding.

Aug. 16

• A Lopez Island deputy was called to look for a suspicious male seen going up and down residential driveways near Lopez Village. The man was not found in the area.

• A deputy responded to an area check at Pinedrona Lane in Friday Harbor. Upon arrival two subjects were found in violation of dual restraining orders. While attempting to take the female subject into custody she assaulted a deputy with her vehicle while he was in his patrol car.

• A deputy was dispatched to a report of harassment in Friday Harbor. The reporting party just wanted the incident documented.

• A Lopez Island deputy was sent to look for a group of bicyclists picnicking along Mud Bay Road creating a traffic hazard. The cyclists had moved on before the deputy arrived.

• An Orcas Island deputy took a report of stolen cell phone that was left behind in a local restaurant. A report was taken.

• A Lopez Island deputy responded to a property line dispute between two adjoining landowners on the south end. After listening to both sides, they were referred to civil court if they could not resolve their differences.

• At about 10 p.m., a deputy pulled over a vehicle for no tail lights at Olga and Crescent Beach roads. The driver was cited for the infraction.
