The San Juan County Sheriff’s Office responded to the following calls.
Jan. 10
• A deputy on San Juan received a report of two dogs running in traffic. The deputy observed that two citizens had stopped and were holding onto the dogs until the owner showed up and took custody of the dogs.
• On San Juan, a deputy served a warrant and arrested the person without incident.
• A deputy on San Juan stopped the driver of a vehicle for speeding and issued the driver a citation for speeding, 40 mph in a 25-mph zone.
• On Orcas, a deputy responded to a fraud complaint after the complainant was contacted by someone claiming to be from Amazon fishing for account information. The complainant contacted Amazon customer service at their published number and confirmed the caller had been attempting to defraud her.
• A San Juan deputy responded to a report of a stranger opening someone else’s front door, and breaking things in the road. The caller did not wish to pursue criminal charges. The deputy picked up the garbage and gave the person involved a ride home.
• A deputy on San Juan responded to a report of an unwanted person. A family member showed up to another family member’s residence, banged on their door and made indirect threats because of money. The reporting party wanted the incident to be documented.
• On San Juan, a deputy took a report of a possible missing person, since they had not spoken to their fiancé for a day and a half. The deputy could not reach the individual by telephone or at their house late at night and other deputies were notified to contact the individual during daylight hours.
Jan. 11
• A Lopez deputy responded to a report of a residential burglary. Once on the scene, the deputy observed that a door that had previously been held shut by a thin piece of string had detached, and the door had swung open during the night. Nothing in the home was missing and there were no signs of entry.
• A deputy responded to a two-vehicle, non-injury traffic collision in Eastsound. Information was exchanged by the drivers.
• On San Juan, a deputy took a report of a juvenile found in possession of some suspicious items, and forwarded the report to juvenile services for review.
• A deputy took a report regarding a dog fight in Eastsound. The reporting parties’ dog may have been attacked by two other dogs, then immediately went missing. After an extensive search, the two attacking dogs and the victim dog were not located.
• A deputy took a report of a trespassing complaint in Eastsound. The owners of the property in question requested a trespass warning letter be issued to the individual.
• On Orcas, a deputy took a report of a domestic disturbance. An investigation revealed that no crimes were committed and the parties had already separated.
• A deputy was dispatched to a report of a domestic incident on San Juan. After the deputy contacted the people involved and obtained statements determined there was no evidence of a crime.
Jan. 12
• A deputy in Friday Harbor took a call about an unwanted person, and offered suggestions for resolving the issue.
• Deputies responded to a domestic disturbance in Eastsound. Once an investigation was completed, deputies determined that one of the involved subjects was not in compliance with a recent release from jail, and was arrested.
• A deputy took a report concerning a series of events by an individual on Blakely Island, that is concerning the Blakely Island community. Steps are being made to determine if any crimes have been committed.
• A Lopez resident reported a loss of $250 while trying to make a purchase on a Facebook store. Deputies completed a courtesy report.
• In Friday Harbor, deputies were dispatched to the sound of two people arguing loudly at a residence. Following an investigation, the incident was determined to be a verbal disagreement and the parties were separated. There were no signs of assault.
• Deputies responded to a report of a domestic disturbance in the evening hours on Orcas involving two brothers who had been in a verbal argument. The deputies determined no crimes had occurred at the time of the event.
• A San Juan deputy responded to a report of a prowler in Friday Harbor. A man was seen on video surveillance peering into a woman’s apartment approximately 30 minutes prior to the report. The male was not known to the reporting deputy so the image was circulated to help with identification.
Jan. 13
• An Orcas woman called to report her trash can had been stolen for a second time.
• A person in Friday Harbor was causing problems with one of the consignment stores. He was located and trespassed from the property.
• A Lopez deputy responded to a report from Shaw Island involving two dogs that had escaped, entered a neighbor’s chicken coop and killed 26 chickens. The dog’s owner received a citation and will be responsible for recouping the loss. The dog’s status will be reviewed with restrictions likely to be implemented.
Jan. 14
• A deputy on San Juan was dispatched to a theft report. Video was provided, a suspect was identified, located and arrested for third-degree theft, possession of stolen property-third degree and second-degree trespassing.
• A deputy was dispatched to a vehicle theft in the Friday Harbor area. The deputy contacted the people involved and, following an initial investigation, determined the incident appears civil but additional follow up is needed.
• Deputies on San Juan were dispatched to a domestic violence incident, and arrested one person for assault-4th degree domestic violence.
• An Orcas deputy stopped a driver for speeding. An investigation revealed the driver’s license was suspended and they did not have the required ignition interlock device. Ultimately, the driver was issued criminal citations and released at the scene.
• A Lopez deputy conducted a traffic stop on Fisherman Bay Road and issued the driver a citation for speeding.
• An Orcas citizen called about an order violation.
• Deputies on San Juan responded to a verbal domestic incident. The involved parties separated for the night, and one party was to make arrangements to retrieve their belongings from the residence.
• Lopez deputies responded when the driver of a vehicle crashed on Center Road causing substantial property damage. The responsible party was located and arrested for hit-and-run, driving under the influence, and driving with a suspended license.
• Deputies on San Juan responded to numerous noise complaints from a quinceañera being thrown at The Fairgrounds. The property was rented and under contract for the specified event. The contract did not specify abiding by county noise ordinance rules or state a specific ending time.
• Deputies responded to a domestic incident in Friday Harbor. An investigation determined that no crime had been committed, and one of the involved parties was within their legal boundaries of disciplining their child. Safe San Juans was contacted.
Jan. 15
• Deputies responded to an aggravated assault on San Juan. The intoxicated suspect was located immediately and resisted arrest as two deputies tried to get control of him. The suspect was booked into jail for second-degree assault and resisting arrest.
• A deputy on San Juan responded with EMS to a medical incident in the jail. No crime had occured.
• A deputy on San Juan stopped the driver of a vehicle for failing to stop at a stop sign. The driver was found to be driving with a suspended license and received several citations including failing to stop at a stop sign and driving with a suspended license – 3rd degree.
• Lopez deputies responded to a residential burglary call. An unknown individual forced a locked door into the residence and stole thousands of dollars worth of personal belongings. The scene was processed, and the investigation is ongoing.
• A deputy on Orcas conducted a traffic stop and issued the driver a citation for speeding, 44 mph in a 25 mph-zone.
Jan. 16
• A deputy on San Juan was dispatched to a report of an unwanted person. The person left the property upon request and received a trespass warning letter.
• On Orcas, a deputy took a call about a theft at a local business. The suspect was caught on camera, and the case is ongoing until the suspect is identified.
• A deputy on San Juan stopped the driver of a vehicle for speeding. The driver was then issued a citation for speeding, 61 mph in a posted 45 mph zone.
• A deputy on San Juan served a court order to a respondent via an electronic service, as permitted by the court.
• On San Juan, a deputy responded to a report of a pair of prescription eyeglasses found outside of the Sheriff’s Office, took custody of the eyeglasses and stored them into as found property.
• A deputy on Orcas conducted a traffic stop and issued the driver warnings for an expired registration and a broken taillight. The driver was also issued a citation for not having a valid operator’s license.
