Three of Steven Hill’s pastel paintings have been juried into the winner’s circle and runners-up list of North Light Books Annual International Competition “Strokes of Genius 9, Creative Discoveries” and will be published in 2017 in a large format art book that will be distributed worldwide to major art museums, art galleries, sold on-line and in book stores.
Sponsored by the Artists’ Network, only 128 artists from thousands of worldwide entries were chosen as winners. Hill’s paintings “Moody Sol Duc River” and “Rain Sun Rain, Havana” made the winner’s cut and his third entry “Sol Duc Morning” also painted on the Olympic Peninsula, last summer, made the runner-up list.
Hill was recently one of the 78 painters from the U.S. invited to “Paint Cuba” with B. Eric Rhoades, publisher of Plein Air Magazine and Fine Art Connoisseur, last February. His Cuba entry for “Strokes of Genius 9” was done in his studio from other paintings and reference sketches made during that trip, while in Havana.
Quote from Hill: “I was absolutely floored and pretty darned thrilled to get the email notice from Sarah Laichas, senior content editor at North Light Books yesterday – and especially to have all three of my entries get awards and a mention. I had to pinch myself and read it twice!”
