The San Juan County Sheriff’s Office responded to the following calls.

Dec. 20

• Deputies responded to a report of a death in Friday Harbor. The coroner responded and an investigation was conducted. It appeared the decedent passed away from natural causes.

• A San Juan deputy attempted to stop the driver of a vehicle for traveling 56 mph in a posted 45 mph speed zone. The driver accelerated and drove down a nearby gravel road. Once the deputy caught up to the driver, they stopped, and the unlicensed teenage driver was issued several citations.

A Lopez deputy stopped the driver of a vehicle on Fisherman Bay Road. Subsequently, the driver received a citation for an expired registration of more than two months.

• Deputies stopped a driver on Fisherman Bay Road for a defective headlight. The driver, a local man, was subsequently issued a citation for driving with an expired license, a defective headlight, and verbal warnings for other deficiencies.

• A deputy on San Juan took a report of trespassing and trespassed an individual from a property.

Dec. 21

• San Juan deputies responded to a report of a domestic incident. The incident was verbal, and no apparent crime was committed.

• Lopez deputies were dispatched to a report of residential burglary and learned the incident was unfounded.

• An Orcas deputy responded to a call of the theft of a rock. The reporting party was contacted, and an investigation conducted revealed no theft occurred. The matter was determined to be civil.

• Lopez deputies responded to a call from the school about a student experiencing a health crisis. The student’s grandmother arrived on the scene, was able to calm her grandchild then took them home for the day without incident.

• Lopez deputies responded when a student driver collided with a parked vehicle at the school. There were no injuries, and deputies completed a report for insurance purposes.

• A Lopez deputy stopped the driver of a vehicle on Mud Bay Road. The driver received a speeding citation for traveling 52 mph in a posted 35 mph zone.

Dec. 22

• On Lopez, a deputy was dispatched to a death investigation, concluded the death appeared to be of natural causes, documented the incident, and contacted Evan’s Funeral Home.

• An Orcas deputy was dispatched to a hit-and-run accident. The reporting party said that he had been involved in an accident while driving on Orcas Road, but the other vehicle did not stop. The suspect vehicle was later located, and the owner was identified. The investigation is ongoing.

Dec. 23

• San Juan deputies responded to a report of a health crisis. Deputies contacted the caller, spoke with them for nearly an hour before clearing the scene and documenting the incident.

• A Lopez deputy was dispatched to a parking problem, warned the driver and documented the incident.

• A deputy on Orcas was dispatched to a traffic offense that occurred 20 minutes prior. The driver of the vehicle was spoken to about laws of driving current registered vehicles on county roads.

• A Lopez deputy stopped the driver of a vehicle for speeding on Mud Bay Road and issued the driver a citation for speeding 56 mph in a posted 45 mph zone – the driver’s second speeding citation of the week.

• On San Juan, a deputy responded to a report of an order violation; located the suspect, and sent a report to the Prosecutor’s Office.

Dec. 24

• A deputy on Orcas responded to a hit-and-run complaint. The investigation is ongoing.

Dec. 25

• On San Juan, deputies responded to a call from the hospital about a report of drugs after drug paraphernalia was removed from a patient. A probable cause statement is pending once results from the Washington State Patrol laboratory are received.

• On Orcas, deputies received a lost property complaint.

Dec. 26

• Deputies on San Juan responded to a report that multiple teenage girls appeared to have stolen from at least two stores in Friday Harbor.
