The San Juan County Sheriff’s Office responded to the following calls.
Jan. 15
• A Lopez deputy responded to an unfounded complaint of a prowler on a person’s property. The caller is nearing 50 unfounded and false complaints to the Sheriff’s Office. A report was forwarded to mental health care providers.
• A Lopez deputy responded to a welfare check. An individual was discovered to be self-harming. No medical care was needed, family was informed and resources were provided.
Jan. 16
• An Orcas Island deputy had an abandoned vehicle towed from the intersection of Olga Road and Langdon Road.
• A San Juan deputy responded to a request to trespass a person from a citizen’s home. A trespass letter was completed for the homeowner to sign.
• A San Juan deputy responded to a report of a verbal domestic incident. Investigation revealed no crime had been committed. The incident was documented in a report.
• A deputy on Orcas Island responded to a tip 411 report involving an unknown person peering into their residence from the front door. A report was authored.
• A San Juan deputy took a report of a violation of a court order. A person was said to have contacted a friend of the protected person. Investigation revealed that the order was not violated.
Jan. 17
• A deputy was dispatched to a malicious mischief call in the San Juan Island area. The deputy observed tire tracks through a yard at the business. Photos and a report were taken.
• A San Juan deputy responded to a report of found drugs. A citizen had located a small bag with suspicious white powder in it. The deputy collected the item and, as there was no evidence to identify the owner, placed it into evidence for destruction.
• A deputy on Orcas Island responded to a report of a dog having attacked a rooster. The dog owner was issued a nuisance dog citation.
• A San Juan deputy took a report of trespassing. The reporting party wished to trespass parties who had come to their property, believing them to be suspicious. The deputy completed trespass warning letters for service.
• A deputy on Orcas Island took a report of suspicious circumstances. Whether a crime has been committed or not is yet to be determined.
Jan. 18
• A Lopez resident’s vehicle was taken without permission and abandoned on the side of the road. The incident is under investigation.
• Lopez deputies were called to a local business to investigate an assault. The male suspect was located nearby and arrested.
• An Orcas Island Deputy investigated a report of fraud. A resident was defrauded out of $5,000 through a scam text and email. The investigation is ongoing.
• Orcas Island deputies responded with Orcas Island Fire & Rescue to a structural fire near the Turtleback Mountain area. The residents were evacuated from their home with no injuries. The fire was extinguished, and the incident was documented.
• Orcas Island deputies responded to a parking problem in the West Beach area. A broken-down vehicle without registration was observed blocking an easement to a resident’s driveway and blocking access to the powerlines. The vehicle was impounded, and the incident was documented.
• San Juan deputies responded to a report of two vehicles racing, beginning on Tucker Avenue. The two vehicles were later located and stopped, and both drivers were issued criminal citations for racing. Both vehicles were impounded for a 72-hour hold.
• A Lopez deputy responded to a report of misplaced items. The incident was documented.
• A San Juan deputy took a report of fraud. The incident is still under investigation.
• San Juan deputies responded to a report of a domestic incident. One individual was arrested for assault in the fourth degree, domestic violence, and was booked into jail.
• A deputy was contacted about a theft in the San Juan Island area. The person was reporting that items had been removed from their residence. No suspect information at this time. A report was taken.
Jan. 19
• Deputies responded to a death investigation. A report was taken.
• Orcas Island deputies responded to theft call in the Killebrew Lake area. The incident was documented, and an ongoing investigation is underway.
• An Orcas Island deputy conducted a traffic stop for speeding 49 mph in a 35 mph zone in the 200 block of Mt. Baker Road. The driver was subsequently issued an infraction for speed and a citation for driving with a suspended license.
Jan. 20
• Deputies on San Juan Island responded to a domestic incident at a hotel in Friday Harbor. After contacting the involved parties, a female was taken into custody and booked into the San Juan County Jail for assault in the fourth degree, domestic violence. A report was completed.
• A deputy on Orcas Island conducted a traffic stop. The driver was issued a notice of infraction for speeding, 45 mph in a 25 mph zone, and no proof of liability insurance.
• A deputy on San Juan Island took a report from a concerned reporting party who wanted to remain anonymous. The reporting party was concerned for the safety of others. A report was completed.
• Deputies on San Juan Island responded to a report of harassment. It was reported that an ex-boyfriend of a person was causing problems and harassing them. A report was completed.
Jan. 21
• A Lopez deputy responded to a reported suspicious vehicle on private property. No persons were seen near it, and the vehicle left a short time later.
• A Lopez Island deputy was dispatched to an agency assist call. The incident was documented.
• A Lopez Island deputy was given found property. The owner was eventually contacted, and the item was returned. The incident was documented.
• A Lopez Island deputy was dispatched to a theft of fuel. An individual was later contacted and booked into the county holding facility for an outstanding warrant and theft of motor vehicle fuel. The incident was documented.
• Deputies on San Juan Island responded to a domestic incident. A female was taken into custody for assault in the fourth degree, domestic violence, and was booked into the San Juan County Jail. A report was completed.
