Kirsten Anderson at the Lopez Island Conservation Corps headquarters.
Lopez Island would like to welcome Kirsten Anderson, this year’s AmeriCorps Individual Placement Member. Anderson was chosen from a long and distinguished list of AmeriCorps applicants. She will be working in partnership with the Lopez Island Family Resource Center, LIFRC, and the Lopez Island Conservation Corps, LICC, for the next ten months. Her first day on the job was this past Oct. 1.
Anderson will be working directly with the Lopez Island Conservation Corps as the program leader and will be responsible for all aspects of the program including recruitment, leadership, safety, planning, operations and fundraising. LICC is a nonprofit 501(c) organization, and Anderson will be working closely with the LICC Board and Nick Teague of the Bureau of Land Management, Spokane District.
“We are really looking forward to working with Anderson this year. She has many talents and skills which will help take the LICC program to a new level,” Tim Clark, of the LICC board, said.
As Program leader for LICC, Anderson will schedule outdoor environmental education and community service projects such as habitat enhancement, trail maintenance, native plant restoration, beach clean up, noxious weed removal, and more. She will be working with our local youth 14 – 18 years old and also exploring a younger group as well. Returning members of LICC are looking forward to the program running throughout the school year and into the summer. With so many young people interested in participating with LICC, Anderson will be able to create even more opportunities for our local youth to be engaged.
“I am incredibly excited to be back in the Pacific Northwest, specifically with this unique and creative Island community,” Anderson said in response to her new position.
Anderson will also be working with the LIFRC’S After School Programs, Middle School Homework Club, Lopez Fresh, and Lopez Kids Summer Workshops. In addition to assisting with the daily operations of the Lopez Island Family Resource Center, she will help to coordinate programs, recruit and manage volunteers. We are very excited to have Anderson as a member of our community and hope you will join us in welcoming her to the island.
