Melina Lagios.
Melina Lagios is the new Youth Services Librarian. She will be providing story times for toddlers on Thursdays and for preschool children on Fridays as well as planning activities and helping children and teens find interesting books to read for fun and for school.
Melina Lagios comes to us from Iowa City, where she earned her library degree at the University of Iowa. For the past two years she worked as the children’s services intern and summer reading program coordinator at the Iowa City Public Library. Melina has a special interest in emergent literacy and providing library services to youth and families. Her experiences include working with book baby programming, summer reading, story times, video gaming programs, as well as an assortment of other fun teen and kid events.
Prior to discovering libraries, Melina worked as a writer, photographer, copywriter, and broadcasting studio supervisor for a PBS affiliate in Virginia. She also was active in her community, volunteering with a radio station, regional film festival, gardening group, and an affordable housing organization. She counts many activities as hobbies, but her favorites are gardening, photography, traveling, cooking, and writing. She grew up in Northern Iowa, where she was active in 4H and helping out on her grandmother’s chicken farm.
“I’m so impressed by the beauty of the island and especially the warmth and friendliness of the people. I look forward to getting to know folks better and working in my new capacity as the youth services librarian and library assistant director.”
Please stop by the library and say “hi” to welcome Melina to the community.
