Hazel Nielsen-Graham

Hazel Nielsen-Graham, 94, passed from this world on November 6, 2013, after a battle with kidney failure for 3 years. She was preceded in death by her three sisters and one brother, and all of her Hazel was born on Lopez Island in 1919, the third child of Danish immigrant parents, Johanna Mauridsen-Nielsen and Niels Nielsen. She spent her childhood assisting her parents on their Lopez farm.

After completing the 8th grade on Lopez Island, Hazel worked for the King Family. She was the nanny for Marcie King on Friday Harbor, completing the 9th and 10th grades.

Hazel moved to Seattle, becoming a nanny for the Scripps family. They owned the Seattle Star Newspaper and also were the owners of Charles Island, just south of Richardson.

Hazel met Clifford Graham at a Swedish Club dance. (Cliff was also a Lopez Boy, but moved when he was 10 years old.) They married 8 months later. Cliff and Hazel were married until his death in 1971.

Then Hazel met Arnie Holm, and they were together until his death in 2007.

Hazel was a Teamster with Local 117. She enjoyed a long working life with Stanley Home Products, in Seattle, Wash., then retired to her home on the beach in Shelton, Wn. When Hazel was 89 she moved to Oak Harbor, Wn. to be closer to family and continued to drive until the age of 91.

Hazel has left behind many friends and family who will miss her. Her daughters, Gay Shuell, of Lake Isabella, Ca., and Linda Rose and son-in law Kenneth Rose of Lopez.

Her grandchildren, Kenneth Shuell, Eugenea Shuell, Patrick Shuell, Rick Rose, Rhonda Rose and Roxann. Her great grandchildren, Noah, David, Nichol, Bobby, Wayne, Erin, Dillon, Crystal, Pam, Clifford, Lindsay, Ryan, and Tyrel and her 18 great-great grandchildren.

At the request of the deceased there will be no services.
