Hildegard Dengler passed away peacefully on September 27th, surrounded by family in her Lopez Island home. She was 91 years old. Born in Jersey City, NJ, she grew up in New York City and first moved to the Northwest in 1956 when her husband George was stationed as a doctor at Fort Lewis. In 1966 they built a small cabin on Lopez Island, where they soon moved and together went on to start the Lopez Island Clinic.
She was a lifetime member of the Lutheran Church and will be remembered for her sharp wit, her strong will, her passion for music and her love of birds. She is survived by her son Steve (Tina) Dengler, her three daughters: Suzi Golodoff, Joann Dengler and Karen Dengler, as well as her grandchildren: Kurtis (Isabelle) and Kevin (Cassie) and great granddaughter, Eliza.
