Janet Schwartz passed away on May 20, 2019, at Skagit Valley hospital surrounded by her family. Funeral services will be held at Center Church on Lopez Island on May 30 at 2:30 p.m. with a reception to follow at the church. All are welcome to attend and join us in celebrating her life.
Janet was born in Anacortes, Washington, to Grace and Richard Pickering. Janet was the oldest of two siblings Richard and Merry Pickering. She grew up on Lopez Island and graduated from Lopez High School. She moved to Southern California where she had three children: William, Virginia and Mary Grace. Janet met her husband of 40 years David Schwartz. The couple moved to Tennessee where they lived for several years before moving back to her hometown Lopez Island. David and Janet lived on Lopez for many years and were Snowbirds in Sun City, Arizona, before moving to La Conner, Washington.
Janet enjoyed sewing and baking. Baking was a passion of hers and she always enjoyed cooking and baking for her family. Over the years Janet made many beautiful wedding cakes for families on Lopez Island. Janet and David loved Lopez and were active in the community. The couple enjoyed passing out flags every year for the Fourth of July parade on Lopez. Janet’s true passion was her family. She enjoyed spending as much time as she could with her family. She enjoyed taking her grandchildren to the annual Jazz Festival on San Juan Island and loved taking them to the San Juan County Fair each year as well.
Janet is survived by her husband David; her children Mary Grace, Virginia, Reid and Jennifer; her sister Merry; her grandchildren Bridgette, Harry, Heather, Ali, Candice, Christopher, Jessica, Jenny, R.D., Jackson, Katelyn and Bradley; and 15 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents Grace and Richard, her son William and her brother Richard.
