The Lobos golf team has finished regular season play, with honors going to most team members. Lady Lobos have consistently taken most if not all top-four places in previous matches, whereas two men have placed in the top three or four in match play. All four women qualified for the state championship following great rounds at the A/BB/B District and bi-district tournaments: Siri Dye, Shayna Gruenwald, Zoe Reinmuth and Kate Combs placed sixth, eighth, 10th and 17th. As a team, they took second place to Class A OverLake. Meanwhile, Reese Hamilton and Tyler Sovelove placed fifth and sixth at the District 1 BB/B tournament and qualified for tri-districts. Previous scores make these athletes competitive for the 17th year in a row at the state tournament at Tumwater Valley Golf Club on May 20, 21, and 22. The women in particular hope to turn last year’s second place finish among District B schools into a first place this year. Coach Richard Tetu is proud of their play. “But I’m even prouder,” he added, “of the tradition of sportsmanship shown by Lopez golfers, behavior that receives continued compliments from other teams and officials.”
