By Shane Patrick, coach
For our 2025 track season, we started with 36 athletes signing up! As a first-year Lopez Island School District Track coach, I knew I was going to need lots of help, given the unique skills the many track events require. I have a great group of coaches to complement the talent we have in our student-athletes. We have Joe Ingman working with our throwers. Robert Spreine has been crucial with strength and conditioning. Cathrine Ingman and Bill Fuller will work with our mid- and long-distance runners, and Sten Mejlaender with our hurdlers. Marina Mejlaender, whom the kids love from her past years as coach, will keep spirits high! I’m additionally very lucky to have such a talented group of athletes, starting with seniors Glory Westervelt, Anna Fuller, Ethan Patrick, Rowdy Spreine, Ruby Ervin-Mclean, Tristan Buckallew, Silas Gronley, Lilly Nichols, Jacob Sanford and Rafa Valazquez. Along with this large group of seniors, we have another 23 student-athletes on the team, some new faces, some returning. All are eager to push themselves and their teammates, with the goal of returning to state or making it for their first time! We’re all hoping to have a large group going to Yakima this year.
