It took two games to find a rhythm, but Lopez volleyball showed what they could do in their match against Grace Academy on Sept. 13 at home. In the best-of-five match, the first two games went by quickly, with Lopez falling 25-9 and 25-10. But coach Karrie Warner rallied the troops after the second game, telling her athletes to hang in there and play their best. Which is what they did. The Lobos jumped out ahead 5-1 as they played the Eagles evenly right up to a 17-16 lead. But Grace Academy put their best server on the backline and reeled off several quick points, the game finally ending Eagles 25-Lobos 19.
Lopez scored on proficient serving and several long volleys as a loud, energetic crowd shook the stands. All hoped that the third game was a better indicator of the success Lopez can anticipate as the team matures and hones their skill.
