No one can say that soccer is a fair weather sport. The Lopez’s varsity and junior varsity soccer teams played the Friday Harbor Wolverines on Oct. 1, easily the coldest, wettest, windiest day since spring. Both games went to the Wolverines, 7-1 for J.V. and 6-1 in the varsity match.
Avery Conner scored the Lobos’ goal in the J.V. match with only six minutes left in the contest. Tyler Sovelove put the ball in the net midway through the second half of the varsity match for his second goal of the season.
Coach Miles Becker was pleased with the performances of both squads, “Our junior varsity really enjoyed a chance to play a full game, and our varsity performed exceptionally well. The score didn’t reflect how well they played.” The Lobos’ record now stands at 1-5 following an 11-3 victory over LaConner. The team played Cedar Point Christian on Oct. 5, winning 5-2; and Orcas Island on Oct. 11, losing 6-1.
