Emmett Lawrence attended Lewis and Clark College in Portland, Oregon, and ran a year of college track. After studying Spanish in Nicaragua, he transferred to the University of Washington and earned a degree in environmental science.

Lawrence then spent a year in the San Francisco Bay Area where he worked with a master arborist and became a certified tree climber. For the past year, he’s been living on Lopez, where he operates his own tree care business, Solstice Tree Care.
